University of Santo Tomas (UST) bagged the general championship in the juniors division of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78.
UST earned a total of 138 points to dethrone University of the East (UE) which fell short of retaining the title by just five points (133).
De La Salle-Zobel placed third overall with 77 points followed by Far Eastern University-Diliman (74), Ateneo de Manila University (71), University of the Philippines Integrated School (44) and Adamson University (34).
UST won two titles – the boys’ judo and girls’ swimming – then had runner-up finishes in the boys’ chess, boys and girls’ fencing, and girls’ volleyball, and third-place trophy in the boys’ tae kwon do.
For its part, UE claimed four crowns (boys’ athletics, boys and girls’ fencing, and boys’ tae kwon do) and second place in the boys’ volleyball and girls’ table tennis while La Salle-Zobel swept the boys and girls’ table tennis the pocketed the silver medal in the boys and girls’ swimming, and boys’ basketball, and bronze in the boys’ football, boys’ judo and girls’ volleyball.
NU took the top honors in the boys’ basketball, and boys and girls volleyball while FEU-Diliman topped the boys’ chess and boys’ football, and Ateneo ruled the boys’ swimming.
La Salle, earlier, reclaimed the overall champion crown in the seniors division.
The UAAP awarded 15 points to the champion, 12 to second, 10 to third, eight to fourth, six to fifth, four to sixth, two to seventh and one to eighth.
