UST emerges as overall UAAP champ


University of Santo Tomas (UST) virtually clinched the general championship in the seniors and juniors divisions of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77.

The Growling Tigers are set to be declared as the overall champions in the college level after winning five golds, five silvers and seven bronzes. They ruled the women’s beach volley, women’s track and field, men’s tae kwon do, and men and women’s judo.

UST placed second in the men’s beach volley, men and women’s tennis, and men and women’s fencing then wound up third in the men’s volleyball, men’s swimming, men’s table tennis, men’s track and field, women’s tae kwon do and poomsae.

Two-time titlist De La Salle University settled for second with three title, nine runner-up finishes and four third-place trophies.

The Green Archers topped the men’s chess, and men and women’s table tennis, then won silvers in the women’s volleyball, women’s beach volleyball, women’s chess, men’s tennis, men’s track and field, women’s tae kwon do, poomsae, baseball and men’s football.

University of the Philippines (UP) is at third followed by Ateneo de Manila University, Far Eastern University (FEU), National University (NU), University of the East (UE) and Adamson University.

In the high school category, UST also grabbed the top spot while former titlist UE fell to second. Ateneo is in third, De La Salle-Zobel in fourth, NU in fifth, FEU-Diliman in sixth, UP Integrated School in seventh and Adamson in eighth.

The UAAP awards 15 points for the champion team, 12 points for second place, 10 for third, eight for fourth, six for fifth, four for sixth, two for seventh and one for eighth.
