UST eyes 3rd win, La Salle aims for back-to-back


The University of Santo Tomas (UST) guns for its third victory while De La Salle University aims to score a back-to-back win today in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 men’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.

UST, under head coach Bong Dela Cruz meets winless University of the Philippines (UP) in the first game at 2 p.m. while La Salle plays against another winless squad—Adamson University—in second game at 4 p.m.

The Growling Tigers, who survived with a slim 60-59 win over the Adamson Falcons last week, are expected to go all-out against the Fighting Maroons, who are presently occupying the bottom of the standings with the Falcons who are also bearing an identical 0-4 record.

UST, now with two victories and a loss, is banking on the prowess of Kevin Ferrer, Aljon Mariano and Karim Abdul. If ever it defeats UP, the Growling Tigers will tie Far Eastern University and Ateneo De Manila University in the second and third place, both teams possessing an identical 3-1 win-loss records.

La Salle is coming off an inspiring victory when it beat University of the East, 60-58, on Sunday improving its win-loss record to 2-2. Jeron Teng, Norbert Torres and Almond Vosotros are expected to give the rookie-laden Adamson squad a hard time.

Fresh from a humiliating 25-62 defeat from leading team National University (4-1) on Wednesday, the Adamson Falcons are expected to go all-out to redeem themselves when they face the defending champions La Salle Green Archers.

“We need to lessen our turnovers and we’re not going to take Adamson lightly,” said La Salle coach Juno Sauler. “We are expecting them to comeback strong against us.”
