University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Far Eastern University (FEU) will be disputing the last slot in the stepladder semifinals today in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 women’s volleyball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The game is at 4 p.m.
After the elimination round, UST and FEU are tied in the fourth spot with 6-8 each behind defending champion Ateneo de Manila University (14-0), De La Salle University (12-2) and National University (8-6).
Ateneo already secured the first finals berth after sweeping the eliminations, leaving La Salle, NU, FEU and UST battling it out for the remaining seat in the finals.
The winner of the UST-FEU will advance against NU in the first stage of the stepladder semifinals.
The Tigresses posted an easy 25-10, 25-22, 25-11 win over University of the East in their last match with rookie EJ Laure firing 11 points and veteran Pamela Lastimosa adding 10.
“We just need to play solid especially our veteran players,” said UST head coach Odjie Mamon.
Besides Laure and Lastimosa, the UST will be banking on Carmela Tunay, Jessey De Leon, Ria Meneses and setter Alex Cabanos.
FEU, on the other hand, eliminated Adamson University via a 25-20, 25-21, 25-18 decision.
“We’re slowly getting the needed confidence going into the crucial stage of the tournament but we have to be consistent at all times,” stressed FEU mentor Shaq Delos Santos.
Queen Tamaraws Remy Palma and Geneveve Casugod will be leading FEU’s frontline along with power-hitting Bernadeth Pons and Toni Basas.
