• UST forges title showdown vs NU

CAPITALIZING on its homecourt advantage, University of Santo Tomas (UST) prevailed in their respective girls and boys semifinals matches to forge a title showdown with National University (NU) on Thursday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 79 high school volleyball tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion Arena.

The Junior Tigresses bucked a third set loss to bundle out De La Salle-Zobel, 25-19, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, in the girls step-ladder while the Tiger Cubs made quick work of University of the East, 25-17, 25-15, 25-15, in the boys’ Final Four.

UST hopes to foil the Bullpups bid for a second straight championship double when the best-of-three series in the girls and boys division begins next week.

Eya Laure atoned from the errors she committed late in the third set that gave the Junior Lady Spikers a lifeline by taking charge in the fourth frame to power the Junior Tigresses to victory in front of a big yellow-clad crowd led by alums Alyssa Valdez and EJ Laure.

UST hopes to end NU’s two-year reign in the girls division. The Bullpups jumped straight to the Finals after a perfect 12-0 elimination round campaign.

The Tiger Cubs were not far behind, unleashing their power game to eliminate the Junior Warriors, who two years removed after completing a 11-peat will finish in third place in the boys side.

NU became the first team to advance in the title round after defeating Far Eastern University-Diliman in the other Final Four pairing Tuesday at the NU gym.
