UST leads UAAP overall race


Perennial contender University of Santo Tomas (UST) is still leading the overall championship race in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77.

The Growling Tigers have so far earned 213 points after ruling five events—men and women’s judo, men’s tae kwon do, women’s athletics and women’s beach volleyball – and got four runner-up honors – men and women’s fencing, men’s tennis and men’s beach volleyball.

Running second is the defending champion De La Salle University with 189 points. The Green Archers bagged the men and women’s table tennis crowns then placed second in women’s tae kwon do, poomsae, men’s athletics, men’s badminton and women’s beach volleyball.

University of the Philippines took the No. 3 spot with166 points highlighted by its three crowns—women’s tae kwon do, poomsae and women’s badminton.

Rounding up the list are Ateneo de Manila University (140), Far Eastern University (130), University of the East (122), National University (114) and Adamson University (57).

Ateneo topped the men and women’s swimming; FEU ruled the men’s athletics; UE dominated the men and women’s fencing; and NU pocketed the men and women’s basketball, men’s beach volleyball, men’s tennis and men’s badminton crowns.

Adamson has yet to win a title season. The third-place trophies in the men and women’s beach volleyball were, so far, the highest finish of the Soaring Falcons.

The remaining events this season are volleyball, football, women’s tennis, chess, baseball and softball.

The UAAP awards 15 points for the champion team, 12 points for second place, 10 for third, eight for fourth, six for fifth, four for sixth, two for seventh and one for eighth.
