Perennial title contender University of Santo Tomas (UST) leads the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 overall championship race after the first semester events.
UST collected a total of 152 points highlighted by its championship trophies in judo (men and women), tae kwon do (men) and beach volleyball (women). They also got a runner-up finish in men’s beach volleyball, and third place medals in the men’s swimming, men’s table tennis, women’s tae kwon do and poomsae.
Defending champion De La Salle University is in close second with 147 points. The Green Archers dominated the table tennis competitions (men and women), wound up second in the women’s tae kwon do, poomsae, men’s badminton and men’s beach volleyball, and placed third in men and women’s basketball and women’s swimming.
With three titles—women’s tae kwon do, poomsae and women’s badminton—in the bag, University of the Philippines (UP) took the third spot with 130 points followed by the men and women’s swimming champion Ateneo de Manila University in fourth with 112 points.
National University (NU) occupied the fifth position with 99 points. The Bulldogs are fresh from winning the men and women’s basketball crowns. They also topped the men’s beach volleyball and men’s badminton.
Far Eastern University (FEU) is in sixth (91 points) followed by season host University of the East (63) and Adamson University (58).
In the junior’s division, UST grabbed the top spot with 83 points followed by UE (73), De La Salle-Zobel (52), Ateneo (50), NU (35), UP Integrated School (28), FEU-Diliman (18) and Adamson (8).
The league awards 15 points to the first placer, 12 to second, 10 to third, eight to fourth, six to fifth, four to sixth, two to seventh and one to eighth.
