Defending champion University of Santo Tomas (UST) holds a slim lead in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 general championship race after the completion of seven events.
The Growling Tigers amassed 155 points after winning the men’s tae kwon do, poomsae and women’s judo crowns and placing second in the men’s judo, women’s tae kwon do, men’s beach volleyball, men’s table tennis and men’s basketball events.
Former titlist De La Salle University takes the No. 2 spot with a close 153-point output highlighted by its domination in the men and women’s table tennis, and women’s beach volleyball. The Green Archers got runner-up finishes in the men’s badminton and men’s swimming, and third-place trophies in the women’s basketball, women’s swimming, women’s badminton, men and women’s tae kwon do, poomsae, and men’s judo.
Ateneo de Manila University – champion in the men and women’s swimming, and men’s beach volleyball – occupies the third position with 140 points while season host University of the Philippines—winner in the women’s badminton event—grabbed 115 points for fourth.
Men’s basketball champion Far Eastern University is in fifth with 90 point followed by National University (82), University of the East (79) and Adam¬son University (37).
NU ruled the women’s basketball and men’s badminton while UE topped the women’s tae kwon do.
Volleyball, chess, athletics, fencing, softball, baseball and football are the remaining events this season. The league awards 15 points for first place, 12 for second, 10 for third, eight for fourth, six for fifth, four for sixth, two for seventh and one for eighth.
In the juniors division, La Salle-Zobel takes the lead with 78 followed by UST (74), UE (64), NU (52), Ateneo (35), UP Integrated School (30), FEU-Diliman (24) and Adamson (14).
