UST scores come-from-behind win over Adamson

University of Santo Tomas (UST) banked on a strong third-quarter surge to beat Adamson University, 67-62, on Saturday for its second straight win in UAAP men’s basketball at the Araneta Coliseum.

Forward Kevin Ferrer scattered 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting in the field along with four rebounds and four blocks, while Jeric Teng added 13 of his 15 points in the second half to clinch the game for the Growling Tigers.

Down by 26-36 early in the third quarter, the Growling Tigers responded with a 19-11 scoring run to seize the advantage going into the final period, 45-41.

UST pulled away, 63-53, in the last two minutes after Ferrer’s reverse lay-up. But Adamson unleashed a 9-1 run capped by Roider Cabrera’s triple that narrowed the gap to 62-64 with only 30 seconds left.

Teng scored on a jumper to make it 66-62 and the Falcons muffed a three-pointer in the last eight seconds. The host school fell to 1-1 win-loss record after winning last Sunday against University of the Philippines.

Jericho Cruz had 15 points for Adamson, but missed a lot of shots in the second half, while 6’8 Nigerian Ingrid Sewa had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Sewa, however, came out empty in the second half making only one attempt in the last two periods.

In the other match, the University of the East Red Warriors beat the National University Bulldogs, 71-67.
