ILOILO CITY: Friday night’s dinner-for-a-cause, to be hosted by Alyssa “The Phenom” Valdez, hopes to gather funds for the benefit of a bed-ridden fan who is suffering from cancer.
Valdez and her team arrived in Iloilo City Friday for a volleyball camp on August 27 to 28 with 200 selected students and a goodwill game with selected players of the Central Philippine University.
Ruding Villaruz, coordinator of the skills camp in this city, said he was able to persuade Valdez to spare her schedule on Friday evening to raise funds for Wilyn Quiachon who happens to be an avid fan.
Villaruz said that Quiachon in her post at the camper’s camp corner, an account that he created in Facebook, begged that her nine-year-old daughter Charlize Louise be allowed to join the clinic.
She shared that she was bed-ridden due to cancer while her mother is also suffering from stage 4 cancer.
Villaruz said he sought the consent of the group regarding the dinner-for-a-cause, which was granted.
The amount that will be raised tonight will be received by Charlize Louise, Villaruz said.
Meanwhile, the volleyball camp that will be held over the weekend aims to raise children’s awareness about the sport.
Valdez said they will teach kids the basic skills in volleyball, hoping that the initiative would lead to the discovery of future players.
