Members of the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) on Thursday announced a slight gain in sales for the first nine months of the year.
AVID year-to-date sales in the period January to September 2013 reached 22,785 compared to the 21,763 during the same period last year, for a 5-percent increase.
The sales figure was reached despite the 9-percent decline of unit sales for the passenger car segment, which saw sales of 11,765, which is a dip from the 12,931 units delivered in the first nine months of 2012.
AVID’s year-to-date sales was primarily boosted by the 25-percent rise in the sales of the light commercial vehicles, with 11,020 units delivered in the three quarters of the year versus the 8,832 units rolled out during the same period of 2012.
Last month’s sales was in full throttle after the passenger car segment saw unit deliveries of 1,230 units, a 39-percent increase from the 882 units of September 2012.
AVID President Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo expressed belief that the country’s good economy would be favorable to the local automotive industry.
