Vessel from Bohol sinks in Camiguin


TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol: A Landing Craft Transport-type vessel carrying limestone from Garcia-Hernandez, Bohol sank in the sea off Camiguin province on Friday morning amid rough seas and strong winds.

The maritime incident report stated that LCT 378 departed the port of Garcia-Hernandez at around 9 p.m. on Thursday with 26 crewmen on board.

The vessel was carrying 3,150 metric tons of limestone bound for Cagayan de Oro City in Misamis Oriental.

At around 8 a.m. on Friday, the ship company’s office received a distress call from Capt. Ediberto Jugarap Sr. saying they encountered a difficult situation caused by heavy rains and strong winds.

Jugarap also reported that big waves battered their vessel while in the vicinity waters of Camiguin Island, then lost contact with the shipping firm’s office.

An Indian vessel that passed along the area intercepted the distress ship call and rescued all the 26 crew members and brought them safely to the port of Dapitan in Zamboanga del Norte.
