Tony Lascuña, 46, is among the most seasoned golfers in the Philippines today with many titles and awards under his belt accumulated through the years.
Lascuña was named male Golfer of the Year in 2015 by the Philippine Sportswriters Association for winning the ICTSI Philippine golf Tour Order of Merit crown for three consecutive years.
He started playing golf at 12, after watching a sibling play the sport.
Just like any serious athlete, Lascuña invests a lot of time honing his skills to perfection.
“I begin practicing one month before the tournament – one week of preparation is not enough for me,” Lascuña said in Filipino. “I practice two to three times on the golf course and I regularly practice my swing at home.”
Lascuña enjoys time with his family when he’s not competing. He named Miguel Tabuena as his favorite local golfer and Irishman Rory McIlroy as his favorite golf superstar.
Lascuña admits that age is slowing him down.
“If you’re a top player, your mentality is always ‘I can do it,’ whether you’re competing locally or abroad. But at 46, maybe I would now just focus on local tournaments,” he said.
But Lascuña said he wants to test his mettle first in the Senior Japan Tour.
“After that, I’ll just enjoy competing here in the Philippines,” he concluded.
