Veteran, newcomer rule Milo CDO leg

CAGAYAN de Oro City: Veteran Juniel Languido and newcomer Christine Hallasgo ruled respectively the men’s and women’s division of the Cagayan de Oro Leg of the 38th Milo National Marathon at the Rotonda Circle here.

The 31-year-old Languido of Malaybalay, Bukidnon outaced Blendon Sandinao in the last 200 meters to finish the 21-km race in 1:10:14 and won the leg for the second straight year. The employee of Dole Pineapple Company also topped the leg last year but failed to join the National Finals in Manila due to conflicting schedules with his work.

“ I was not able to join the National Finals last year because of my work schedules. I was also thinking that I have a little chance of winning against big timers in Manila. This year, I remain doubtful of my participation in the Finals,” said Languido, who started joining the Milo marathon 15 years ago.

Sandinao finished a close second with a time of 1:14:42 followed by Bryan Quiamco for third in 1:15:10 and Rodil Quilab in 1:16:25 for fourth place.Leo Colonia settled for fifth with a time of 1:16:44.


Hallasgo, a 21-year-old first timer in the 21-k category, topped the distaff side with a time of 1:27:44, relegating Crisabel Cadion to second with a time of 1:33:08 and Lezette Albarote at the third spot with a clocking of 1:36:56. Retchell Nave and Virginia Parajenog managed finished fourth and fifth with a time of 1:45:50 and 1:48:27, respectively.

“I also wish to become a member of the national training pool. That’s why I have to practice hard to be able to put up a good performance in the Manila Fiinals. This will be my first time to be in the Finals.I hope I would be noticed by national team coaches,’ said Hlallasgo, a third year Bachelor in Public Administration student at Bukidnon State University.
