Veteran news anchor Harry Gasser dies at 76

Filipino veteran newscaster Harry Gasser passed away early Thursday morning in a hospital in Quezon City where he was recovering from a stroke last Friday.

The news anchor was declared dead at 3:50 a.m. according to Gasser’s son, Henry who was by his father’s bedside when he passed away.

“Doctors tried to revive him pero wala na talaga,” the young Gasser said. “Ang nag-trigger talaga sa heart condition niya was iyong pneumonia last December. Na-pwersa, hindi ma-expectorate ang plema niya, na-pwersa ang puso niya and iyun na nga po, it led there.”

The news personality became famous while anchoring RPN 9’s NewsWatch during the Marcos presidency. He was also the news manager of Radio Veritas before moving to ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol in Cebu.

Gasser was married to comedian Flora Gasser and fathered two sons. His remains will be at St. Peter’s Chapel in Commonwealth, Quezon City. SHEILA MAÑALAC
