What a coincidence indeed. As top comedians Vic Sotto and Ai-Ai delas Alas lead the cast of TV’s newest sitcom, Hay Bahay, both stars are busy moving in and building their respective homes.
Vic and his new wife Pauleen Luna just moved in to their new house in Laguna on Wednesday. It took almost one year to finish the house because the couple really made sure their abode would be built to their liking.
“Medyo natagalan because we attended to the smallest details, lalo na sa finishing stage. Si Pauleen, talagang nakatutok,” Vic said.
The Comedy Queen, on the other had, is having a new house built in an exclusive village in Quezon City. She sold her family home in another Quezon City subdivision because the space had became too big since two of her children, Niccolo and Sophia, moved to the United States.
“Since Sophia and Niccolo have a house in the States already, I thought I should build a house in the Philippines para sa akin at kay Sancho [her other son who is now dabbling in showbiz].Siyempre, eventually kay Sancho na rin yan mapupunta,” Ai-Ai enthused.
In their brand new comedy show on GMA Network, Hay Bahay, Vic and Ai-Ai portray the roles of the two boarders of real and reel husband and wife Oyo Sotto and Kristine Hermosa. They each rent a room in the couple’s three-bedroom house, but there’s a problem—the house only has one bathroom for all of them to share. To make things worse, Vio (Vic) and Lav (Ai-Ai) are complete opposites: he is obsessed with cleanliness, while she is happy to be sloppy. Add comedians Jose Manalo as Vio’s cousin and Wally Bayola as Lav’s brother in the mix, you can just imagine what a riot the show will be!
Although Vic and Ai-Ai have done a couple movies—the most recent one the box-office hit My Bebe Love—it has been 15 years since they starred together in a sitcom. Remember 143, also on GMA?
The two box-office stars, however, said their closeness never changed through the years.
“My friendship with Ai-Ai is something that I really treasure. Even if we don’t see each other often, there is always that closeness when we see each other,” said Vic.
Ai-Ai, by the way, is also one of the few persons who can make Bossing Vic laugh. They can joke about anything, even about their sex lives!
“Sabi ko nga, ‘Bossing, ano ba yan, nag-asawa ka na, hindi man lang kita natikman’,” said the famously naughty Ai-Ai. “Tumatawa lang siya; ganyan kami magbiruan.”
Vic promises his viewers they will be treated to really funny situations and scenes in Hay Bahay. They have already taped a couple of episodes and many times, they themselves end up laughing during takes because of the antics and adlibs of the cast.
“Actually, it’s a happy set,” Vic shared. “Even off cam, masaya ang mga kwentuhan. Si Jose at Wally ba naman ang kasama mo? Pati si Oyo, you see him as a quiet person pero pag bumanat yan, sasabog ka talaga. Everyone is so comfortable with one another at yung saya sa set, nagtra-translate sa mga eksena. Sabi nga, happiness is contagious and I’m sure the viewers will feel it too.”
Hay Bahay premieres on June 19 after 24 Oras Weekend.
