A candidate in the upcoming village elections and a four year-old boy was gunned down on Friday night in a sub-urban village in Butuan City, police reports said on Saturday.
Reports reaching the Philippine National Police (PNP) National Operations Center in Camp Crame identified the victims as Dimzon Bunghanoy and four year-old Avelino Montano Jr., both were residents of Purok 4, Barangay Camayahan, Butuan City.
Reports said that the attack happened at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday when Bunghanoy was watching TV at home with the young boy.
Bunghanoy sustained a gunshot wound in the head while the boy was hit on his back. The two died instantly after the attack.
Responding policemen recovered several empty bullet shells from an unidentified caliber of firearm in the crime scene.
Police are now investigating to determine if the attack is election-related since Bughanoy was running for a village councilor post. ANTHONY VARGAS
