Village chief in Albay killed in buy-bust


LEGAZPI CITY, Albay: The village chairman of Barangay Inarado, Daraga town in Albay–Rommel Marticio–was killed in a buy-bust conducted in his residence on Wednesday. Arthur Gomez, police provincial command spokesman, said Marticio was on drug watch list and has surrendered but allegedly continued his drug-pushing activity. He added that 165 public officials in Albay involved in drugs have surrendered, including 19 village chiefs; 77 councilmen; two village treasurers, three secretaries; 57 village police; and two municipal councilors. Maria Luisa Calubaquid, PNP Bicol regional spokesperson, said 63 suspects were killed while 46,000 people have surrendered across the region since July 1. Chief Supt. Melvin Buenafe, Bicol police regional director, said public officials who surrendered manifested their willingness to be rehabilitated.
