Village chief killed in Samar ambush


SAN JORGE, Samar: A barangay chairman of this town was gunned down at noon on Saturday by unknown assailants who were reportedly on board a van-type vehicle.

San Jorge OIC Chief Insp. Genaro Nabual, identified the victim as Romulo Barcoma, village chairman of Barangay Mabuhay, some 12 kilometers south of the town proper.

Police said Barcoma was on board a motorcycle coming from the town proper when the suspects fired upon him along Barangay Rosalim.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds that caused his instant death.

Scene of the crime operatives (SOCO) gathered four 5.56 caliber shells, a bullet of an Armalite rifle, and an empty shell of .45 caliber pistol.

Barcoma’s niece told police her uncle has no known personal enemy.
