• Village chief turned drug protector, 2 others killed in Pangasinan


    LINGAYEN, Pangasinan: A barangay chairman of Santa Barbara town, tagged by the police as alleged protector of drug suspects, and two suspected drug pushers were killed in separate shooting incidents in the province on Friday night. Supt. Rex Infante, Santa Barbara chief of police, said Romeo Macatbag-Montemayor of Barangay Payas was shot dead by unidentified assailants while at the nipa hut of his sister. Police said Montemayor reportedly discouraged drug suspects, whom he allegedly protects, to surrender. He is also accused as abusive and of engaging in extortions activities, victimizing computer shop owners. In Pozorrubio town, alleged pusher Ramon Bacallo Cabida, 47, of Barangay Canarvacanan in Binalonan town, was gunned down by a man backriding a motorcycle in the village of Alipangpang. Similarly, suspected big-time drug dealer, Barry Macapaar-Ungcar, 58, was shot dead by gunmen riding a motorcycle who tailed him while he was going home to Pagsolingan Subdivision in San Carlos City. The victim is a Muslim businessman and native of Lanao del Sur in Mindanao who settled in San Pangasinan and reportedly supplies drugs in the nearby towns of Binmaley, Calasiao, Basista and Urbiztondo.
