A VILLAGE chairman and his companion died after three unidentified men shot them in a remote village in Masbate province on Wednesday night.
Reports at the Philippine National Police (PNP) operations center in Camp Crame on Friday identified the slain village official as Irenio Booc,43, chairman of Barangay Divisoria, Cataingan town, Masbate and his companion as Marlon Etcobanes, 20, also a resident of the said village.
Reports added that the two were aboard a motorcycle and were on their way home when the three men stopped them along a municipal road in Sitio Taquican, Barangay Poblacion of the same town.
The three men, without warning, started shooting at them and killing them both instantly. Witnesses said that the gunmen immediately fled after the incident.
Recovered in the crime scene were 13 empty cartridges from a .45 caliber pistol. Police are still conducting investigation to determine the motive and the identities of the gunmen. Anthony Vargas
