SENATOR Cynthia Villar gave officials of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) a tongue-lashing on Wednesday for their failure to stop text scams.
Villar vented her anger during a hearing held by the Senate Public Services Committee into the proliferation of text scams.
She cited the case of the Villar Foundation Inc. which is being used by unidentified individuals to defraud consumers by informing them that they won in a raffle of the foundation.
“I’m really disappointed in you. Our name is being tarnished while the public is being victimized by these scams,” the senator told the officials of the NTC.
She also scolded telecommunications companies for their failure to address the issue.
“You are making a lot of money out of us, might as well protect us,” Villar said.
She told them to put their acts together and come up with a solution to the problem.
