Bulacan fourth district Rep. Linabelle Ruth Villarica on Wednesday took her oath as deputy speaker for Central Luzon, replacing former President Gloria Arroyo who now represents Pampanga’s second district.
The lawmaker took her oath before Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
Villarica heads the House committee on foreign affairs.
Arroyo was ousted as deputy speaker for Luzon after she voted against the passage of the death penalty law in March this year. The other 11 lawmakers who opposed House Bill 4727 also lost their committee chairmanships.
In March, the House of Representatives passed on final reading the bill that seeks to reimpose the death penalty on drug dealers and authorities who will be found guilty of planting illegal drugs as evidence.
