The incoming president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines urged Filipinos to make it a habit to pray for officials of the government. In a radio interview, Archbishop Socrates Villegas said praying for the country’s leaders should not only be done whenever the country is facing difficulties. “We should make it a habit to pray for our leaders because of the heavy responsibility they bear for the country. We should not wait for problems to occur before praying for our President, Senators, Congressmen, Justices and local officials,” he said in an interview over Church-run Radio Veritas. The Lingayen-Dagupan prelate said being the leaders of the nation, they have obligations to the people.
