Viloria knocks out Mexican foe in fifth round

FORMER unified flyweight world champion Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria scored a devastating fifth round knockout win over Mexican Jose Alfredo Zuniga on Saturday night in a flyweight non-title bout held at the Cotai Arena in Venetian Hotel in Macau, China.

The 33-year-old Viloria improved to 34-4 win-loss slate with 20 knockouts.

Viloria’s left hook was too much for Zuniga, leaving the Mexican pug on the floor with 1:42 left in the fifth round.

Zuniga fell to 11-6-1 card with five knockouts.

The win also boosted Viloria’s stocks after scoring a victory last March against Juan Herrera of Puerto Rico via unanimous decision. Viloria lost his World Boxing Organization and World Boxing Association flyweight titles last April 2013 against Mexican Juan Francisco Estrada via split decision.

Meanwhile, Cuban undefeated World Boxing Organization junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux stopped challenger Sod Kokietgym of Thailand to keep the crown.

Chinese boxer Zou Shiming also beat Luis De la Rosa by unanimous decision with a score of 99-91 on two cards and 97-93 on the third.
