Vizcaya govt to plant 3,000 Yakal trees in eco-park

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya: The provincial government here is set to plant some 3,000 Yakal trees on a 410-hectare area inside an eco-park in Diadi town as part of its intensified effort to rehabilitate its forest landscape. Officials said the Yakal seedlings would be planted in the already existing Teak tree plantation at the Lower Magat Eco-Tourism Park (LMETP) located in San Luis village in Diadi town. Foresters at the Nueva Vizcaya State University, meanwhile, explained that the tree’s ecological status is endangered due to logging and kaingin operations in the country. LMETP manager Nequita Castro, for her part, revealed that the reforestation program is being pursued in collaboration with the DENR under a memorandum of agreement.
