Vizcaya pushes for ‘No Plastic’ law

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya: The Provincial Government here is pushing for the passage of an ordinance that will institutionalize a province-wide “No Plastic” law banning the use of plastic bags by consumers and the business sector. Provincial Solid Waste Management coordinator Delia Agunoy said the implementation of a plastic ban in the province will also encourage everyone to practice proper waste disposal and segregation. “With this, we can effectively prevent solid wastes and materials from being scattered along our streets and clogging creeks, rivers and irrigation canals affecting agricultural crops,” she said. She said the Provincial Solid Waste Management Board (PSWMB) has recommended the passage of ordinance requiring the use of eco-bags and papers to reduce solid waste disposal in the province. Once approved, she said the ordinance will institutionalize a provincial plastic ban policy that will result to the development of positive habits and practices among residents of Nueva Vizcaya.
