QUEZON, Nueva Vizcaya: The creation of the Banana Industry Authority (BIA) will boost the production of the fruit and by-products of this town known as the province’s banana producer.
The provincial board said on Wednesday that the approval of the ordinance creating the local BIA in Nueva Vizcaya will help banana farmers and revive the ailing banana industry.
Vice Gov. Lambert Galima said the ordinance will also entail more funds for BIA operationalization.
“This will be fully implemented because it has funds to use. This will eventually revive our banana industry and thereby help our farmers to earn more income from the fruit,” Galima explained.
He also said that the BIA will “activate the banana industry in the province and transform it into a marketable and competitive product in the national as well as in the international market.”
In another development, Galima said the provincial board is also working on the creation and establishment of a soil testing center.
He said that the soil testing center will assist farmers in maximizing the potentials of their agricultural lands for better rice and vegetable production.
“While we see improvement of our irrigation systems, we need to improve our fertile soil which can become suitable for agricultural farming,” Galima said.|
He said the creation of the BIA and the soil testing center is in line with the provincial government’s program on agriculture and food security.
