Takumi Uesato pulled off a hat-trick as a red-hot JPV Marikina FC demolished Davao Aguilas FC, 6-3, in the Philippines Football League (PFL) on Tuesday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.
Uesato notched his third three-goal feat to lead three other scorers as the Voltes improved to 32 points on a 9-5-12 win-draw-loss record, continuing their chase of a fifth place finish.
JPV Marikina, which is trailing behind current No. 5 Stallion Laguna FC by three points, still has the chance to end up behind the top four by posting at least a win in its last two assignments.
With the blowout victory, the Marikeños also snapped a seven-game winless run composed of five losses and two draws.
The No. 7 Davao Aguilas, meanwhile, absorbed their 14th defeat and remained with 18 points on three wins and nine draws.
JPV notched the breakthrough goal just six minutes into the match as Uesato took advantage of a scramble inside the penalty box following a corner kick, heading home the ball from close range.
After a Marikina midfielder dispossessed a Davao booter, Ali Mahmoud outran his defender on the right flank before sending a low cross, which was easily tapped in by Uesato for a commanding 2-0 lead at the break.
The host squad sustained its fiery offense in the second half as Mahmoud posted his goal just two minutes past the restart before Odawara added another goal two minutes later.
Angel Guirado pulled one back for the visitors in the 52nd with a tap-in on a James Hall cross from the right side.
Uesato completed his hat-trick near the hour mark as he dribbled past the porous defense of Davao then beat goalkeeper Nicholas O’Donnell.
Philippine Azkals mainstay Phil Younghusband tried to spark an Aguilas comeback with a 76th minute strike.
But JPV midfielder Satoshi Otomo scored in the stoppage time before Davao striker Harrison Sawyer sank a consolation goal for the final tally.
