Vice President Jejomar Binay was never a propriety member of the Manila Polo Club, his head of media affairs, Joey Salgado, said on Monday.
In a statement, Salgado said Binay never received dividends from his alleged shares of
stocks in the club.
Instead, the Vice President was an honorary member of the prestigious club when he was mayor of Makati City.
Under the club’s by-laws, the President of the Philippines and the mayor of Makati City shall be accorded honorary membership.
Last week, a letter from Urban Bank was presented by Renato Bondal to the Senate sub-committee, apparently showing the Vice President’s shares of stocks in the club.
The letter, Salgado said, appears to be a marketing letter addressed to all members of the club, regardless of membership status.
“If Senator Antonio Trillanes 4th and Bondal can show proof that the Vice President held actual shares and received dividends from the Polo Club, they are free to have them,” he added.
