VICE President Jejomar Binay’s camp said that they just have to work harder in their campaign after a local political party in Cebu province reportedly announced that it is supporting Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s candidacy.
“We respect One Cebu’s decision. We just have to work harder in bringing our message direct to the people,” UNA President and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco said on Sunday.
“VP Binay was born poor, this is the reason why all his life he has fought for the poor and those in need,” Tiangco added.
He said Binay personally travelled to far away countries to rescue OFWs who were condemned to death or suffering from abuse.
“It is only Binay who gave free medicines and healthcare, and gave children free education. It is Binay who built housing for thousands of families,” Tiangco said.
“Other candidates talk about what they will do for the poor, but only Binay has already made life better for the poor,” Tiangco stressed.
One Cebu which is led by gubernatorial bet Winston Garcia signed a unity pact with UNA last February 16 in the province, which has 2.7 million registered voters.
One Cebu broke its alliance with UNA last month.
Binay (23 percent) and Duterte (24 percent) shared the second spot in the recent pre-election survey conducted by Pulse Asia and commissioned by ABS-CBN.
Independent candidate Sen. Grace Poe took the lead with 28 percent.
Administration bet Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd was in third place with 19 percent, followed by Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago of the People’s Reform Party with two percent. –
