• Walking, biking TO curb traffic and health woes

More bike and walk-friendly streets are the answer to traffic congestion in Metro Manila, said Felino Palafox. In a forum organized by the Council on Health Research and Development along with health agencies, Palafox urged policymakers to invest in a transport system that would motivate people to travel on foot or via bikes, rather than use private vehicles to curb the problem of traffic congestion in major cities. He also said that cities that advocate active mobility could also promote a healthy lifestyle in citizens, and generate economic growth. Meanwhile, the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development said providing pedestrian-friendly infrastructures could also decrease harmful carbon emissions, discourage sedentary lifestyle, and reduce the rate of injuries and fatalities caused by vehicular accidents.
