NLEX Road Warriors toppled Globalport Batang Pier, 94-81, on Sunday to stretch their winning run to four in the 40th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup elimination round at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Import Al Thornton and KG Canaleta combined for 48 points to secure their fifth win against four losses and brightened their hope of making it to the quarterfinal round. Batang Pier dropped to solo fifth spot with 4-5 win-loss slate.
“We were just. Our rookie Stanley Pringle is injured. Credit to GlobalPort they made this game difficult for us. I salute KG Canaleta for this game. It’s a good indication for us for our coming game against Kia Carnival. I’m sure it will be tough. It’s always been the bonus working hard in practice. The way we practice the effort they give showed that’s how we must play the game, work hard. We’re always tested each time and we really tried to find ways to scout character,” said NLEX head coach Boyet Fernandez.
Globalport was seemed heading for a nice day when new import Derrick Caracter waxed hot and scored 20 points and eight rebounds in the first half alone. The 6-foot-8 Caracter, a former Los Angeles Lakers in 2010, is the third import of Batang Pier after CJ Leslie and Calvin Warner.
Canaleta finished with a season-high 29 points while Thornton settled with 19 points.
