• Was Duterte really in the August 1989 Davao crisis?

    159

Did he make things up to justify his necrophiliac joke?

Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte hasn’t at all apologized for his horrific rape comment, the latest version of which he said in his April 7 interview: After he saw the corpse of Australian Jacqueline Hamill, raped several times and her throat slit, he raged: “Putangina ang mga ito. Naunahan pa ang mayor. Puking-ina nila.

    Patayin ninyo lahat.”

He justified it though by claiming “there was a story to it,” and said that he cannot apologize for it: “I said it in the heat of anger.”

Assuming this happened (which I show below didn’t happen) i.e., he saw Hamill’s body and then blew his top , it is not what he said in that incident that happened 27 years ago but how he turned it into a sick joke in two occasions this year which has horrified Filipinos and the world.

He most probably said that joke — “naunahan pa ako [they even had her first]” several times in his kingdom of Davao City, thinking in his depraved mind that it was funny, and demonstrated his machismo. (“Ganyan magsalita ang lalaki,” he said in his long April 7 interview.)

That he is lying, trying to wiggle out of his monumental disclosure of his necrophiliac fantasies, is evident in that his joke made in campaign rallies recently do not show him at all angry, but grinning from ear-to-ear as if he was happy he cracked a good joke.

Was it a joke or what? Duterte, left, in April 7 interview right after saying his “comment” was made in the heat of anger, and indeed expressed anger. Right, grinning as his audience laughed after he made his “comment” in campaign speech recently.

Was it a joke or what? Duterte, left, in April 7 interview right after saying his “comment” was made in the heat of anger, and indeed expressed anger. Right, grinning as his audience laughed after he made his “comment” in campaign speech recently.

How can he say now that he was “in the heat of anger” when he said that “naunahan pa si Mayor [they had her before Mayor]” remark, when he was grinning — his sick audience guffawing — when he made a sick joke out of it in his two recent speeches?

Duterte’s sick mind though has been put in public display because that incident — after he saw Hamill’s corpse, he then ordered the attack in anger — didn’t happen at all, and is a figment of this sick candidate’s imagination.

His narration of the fiction is straight out of an action movie: After he saw Hamill’s corpse, he said he ordered: “Patayin silang lahat. Sabi ko shoot to kill. [Kill them all. I said shoot to kill.]” Brtt. Inubos ko nga ang magazine ng Uzi. Ayon. Patay sila. [I got my Uzi from my trailer. I emptied the whole magazine in the Uzi. Brtt. There. They were all dead.”

This did not happen. Duterte is lying.

First, we have photographic proof, thanks to an article by the Filipino Freethinkers Association, citing the report of the prestigious Australian newspaper The Age. The group included in its article a photograph by The Age showing a soldier walking over the Hamill’s body, which was lying at the prison gates, after the military assaulted it. The Age reported that the body remained there for three hours.

Photo from The Age (thanks to Filipino Freethinkers Association) showing a soldier entering the Davao Metrodiscom stockade after their assault, passing Hamill’s body. So how could Duterte claim he ordered the assault after he saw Hamill’s corpse?

Photo from The Age (thanks to Filipino Freethinkers Association) showing a soldier entering the Davao Metrodiscom stockade after their assault, passing Hamill’s body. So how could Duterte claim he ordered the assault after he saw Hamill’s corpse?

Hamill was killed in the assault itself. So how could Duterte claim that after he saw Hamill’s body brought to where he was, presumably hundreds of meters away from the stockade, he ordered the assault?

Since it was a bloody hostage incident involving Australians, the international press extensively covered the crisis.

We have retrieved four of these reports on August 16 and 18, 1989, by the Associated Press, the Free Lance-Star (Fredericksburg, Virginia), the Chicago Tribune, the United Catholic Action News (UCANEWS.com), and another report by the Associated Press by-lined by Robert Reid.

The last three accounts, with their URLs provided, were provided in the Facebook account of Colonel Mike Logico, the Armed Forces intelligence officer at that time in Davao CIty. Logico’s post, made April 18 or after Duterte boasted he led the charge in that crisis read (with a photo of the military official he mentions):

“Meet Lt. Col. Franco Calida , the hero behind the Davao City Prison hostage drama.

“These three archived articles were written within the 3rd week of August 1989. They are about as close as you can get to any article written on the incident. All articles point to the man in the picture as the officer in charge of the operations. Conspicuously missing from the three narratives is the name of a certain public official who claims to have been there, negotiating with the hostage takers, and getting involved in the shootout.”

Indeed, there is no mention at all of Duterte in any way in these lengthy articles that one could reasonably conclude he was not even there. Not only several military officials were mentioned by name, but also then Congressman Jesus Dureza, whom Corazon Aquino ordered to negotiate with the convicts.

All of the accounts agree nearly on all details, and on the major fact: The military, led by Col. Calida, stormed the convicts on the third day of the crisis, after it received reports that the criminals were killing the hostages one by one. All of the 16 hostages — including Hamill — were killed in the assault.

There is no report at all of the Mayor with his Uzi ordering or leading the charge, not even (I was told) in the Davao papers. How could he have led the assault when the military had assumed full authority over the crisis, and ordered Duterte’s police to secure a perimeter several kilometers away?

So how could Duterte claim that he blew his top when he saw Hamill’s corpse, whom he said was beautiful, and then ordered the assault?

Duterte even taunted the other presidential rivals, referring to the assault he claimed he led: “Kung walang kang pinatay, hindi ka dapat maging presidente. Ako pinatay ko lahat doon. [If you have not killed anyone, you should not be president. Me? I killed all of them there.]”

So how could Duterte have created his fiction, and narrated it as a joke in his campaign speeches years later?

One explanation is that at 71 years of age he has started to have a confused mind. This is evident in that in the April 7 interview, he taunted again the other presidential candidates. “Galit kayo sa joke ko, e tinaya ko buhay ko doon, nang na-hostage ako? [You hate my joke, and yet I gambled my life there, when I became a hostage?]”

He did manage to get himself taken as hostage. But this happened in another hostage incident in April, in the Davao Penal Colony or four months before the August carnage, which was ended peacfully. His sick joke involved the August 13-15 crisis at the Davao Metrodiscom stockade, in which Hamill and 15 others were killed.

I can understand Duterte’s confusion since the August convicts were those he convinced to surrender and be brought to the Davao Metrodiscom stockade. He had told them he would meet their demand to have them transferred to the Muntinlupa penitentiary. When it was obvious Duterte was fooling them, they seized and held as hostages the Joyful Assembly of God preachers who were regularly ministering to them. Duterte indeed played a leading role in the April incident. But had no role in the August crisis.

But how could he have concocted the fiction that after seeing Hamill’s body, he ordered the assault, with him leading the soldiers, his Uzi blazing?

I’m afraid there could be only one explanation. After the smoke of battle cleared in the August crisis, civilians like Duterte were allowed into scene.

And when he saw Hamill’s body, and told she was raped several times, necrophiliac fantasies crossed his mind, “Dapat nauna ang mayor.” Those thoughts had been etched in his mind, yet buried, for 27 years that he had to take it out of his chest, using it as a joke in his speeches. If you’re obsessed so much with killing that you boast that you have killed many people and the other candidates haven’t, necrophiliac fantasies take over.

    1. Think twice
Either exagerated, maraming kulang or nililihis ang katotohanan.

      • ms. anne,
when ‘facts’ come from a polluted source, only the uninformed believe in it.

before i continue, may i ask if you are a resident of Davao City? if you are, do i know you? i know almost all of the old families.

I have lived in Davao for 52 years, since birth, and I know we are having the best times our our lives in the city as compared to 30 years ago.

Davao became such a war zone in the mid 70s up to the late 80s that the national government had to send then Colonel Biazon and his marines to police the city. not even they could contain the problem. npa hitmen, corrupt military/policement, and bandits were everywhere.
and that is why we believe in Duterte so much because he was able to control and clean it up without declaring martial law or even imposing a curfew. it might have taken him more than a decade to do it, but he was able to with the least impact on the lives of the law-abiding majority, it was only in the past decade, more or less, did he impose a curfew on the minors who were being used by criminals because of that stupid juvenile law of kiko. the other ordinances – firecracker ban, liquor curfew, smoking ban, speed limit, etc. was welcomed by the people who asked for it.

yes, he has his faults as nobody is perfect. but we forgave him for these because he gave us a better quality of life. free from criminals and corrupt local government people. DPWH, BIR, BOC and other national offices not under his control were still doing their thing until the last decade, but have lately minimized it as complaints reaching Duterte were now being acted upon by him.
the person as portrayed by the biased media is not the Duterte we know. envelopmental journalism is rampant until now. they will do anything if you pay them right.
so please, give me a very good reason why we should believe in tiglao and not our own experiences.

    2. From wiki— Major Nonito Serrano found Hamill which he found wounded brought her into the adjoining administration building. Hamill was brought to the Davao Doctors Hospital through a Red Cross ambulance. Hamill was declared dead on arrival.[1]

I want to argue with Tiglao and his report, i just want to correct some issues, digging deep into this matter requires different sources, your picture where one of the soldier passed by the body of Ms Hamill was in the first salvo, when pugoy et al used the hostages as human shield and there were guns fired and the convicts went back inside the compound, and as the report says “the body of Ms Hamill was brought into the adjoining administration building…”. And protocols of the govt officials to be in the vicinity of the crime scene could make your story of duterte being not in the area a nonsense. You are a mediaman, you have an oath to tell the truth and not guess the truth otherwise you are a hearsay mediaman. If you are doing this for money its none of my business, but if you are trying to do this as a writer/reporter then you are misleading a lot of people with your writings and your credibility is at stake.

Hopefully you will research again, and to those who believed you in your reports are the same mentally blinded by their support to their candidates.

Those who doesn’t like Duterte, so be it, we are in a free country. And by the way RIGOBERTO, not because you can speak and write english gives you the right to insult anyone who can’t as it will fires back on you. What if I tell you 60% of americans and british cannot spell correctly? Don’t be so rude with Filipinos. Writer ka pa naman wala kang modo.

      • and this is from inquirer.net ;

Officials said the hostages were dead before the troops mounted the attack at 3 p.m. It was a bloody end to the drama that started with a Bible-sharing fellowship last Sunday.
The assault came five hours after the convicts, using their hostages as human shields, tried to shoot their way out of the detention center. The soldiers forced them to retreat into the detention center.
The leader of the convicts, former Air Force soldier Mohammad Nazir Samparani, and a 16-year old female hostage, were killed in the first exchange. Samparani was apparently killed by sniper fire. The military said Samparani, a convicted murderer shot the teenage girl in the chest after he was hit. and this…

Rodrigo Duterte who was among the civilian officials who were part of the negotiating team, slammed the criticism oft the military intervention by the investigation team led by Maceda saying that the military assault was the “only civilized option available to government at the time.” He also added that the decision to launch the action was “collective”. He described the death of 5 people as “most unfortunate” and added that the order was to save lives and to apprehend the hostage takers but would be shot if they resist.[3]

        TIGLAO—MAGKANO?

      • Jose Escalante on

        Mr. PeynNDiaz.
        Three things:
        1. If you accuse someone of being dishonest you should, yourself, be above being dishonest.
        2. In your Wikipedia citation you omitted 2 and 1/2 sentences that change 180 degrees what the cited material seem to suggest, i.e. Ms. Hamil was wounded but was dead on arrival at the hospital.
The sentences you omitted:”The BODY of Hamil was retrieved HOURS LATER AFTER HER DEATH.(My emphasis)According to survivors Hamil along with Pugoy were wounded as early as during the 10:30pm gunfight in(sic) August 15. At around 3:15pm (must be following day) some minutes after the troops stormed in the prison, Major Nonito Serrano found Hamil …etc” According to the report Hamil was shot at the back of her chest region with bullet exiting near her collar bone, perhaps the reason some say her throat was slashed. The doctors concluded her death was instanstaneaous.
        3. In your succeeding post after ” …the teenage girl in the chest after he was hit, and this…” you inserted …
Rodrigo Duterte who was among the civilian officials …etc. This was never in the article. I cannot find any of this citation in the whole article. I noted though the disclaimer on the articles:
Duterte who had been mayor of Davao City for more than one year when the hostage taking happened is not mentioned in the articles but was quoted saying days after the incident that the assault was the only civilized option available to the government at that time.by KS
        4. Please check the data where you got the data for you to say that 60% of Americans and British “cannot spell correctly”.

    3. Mr Tiglao since you are already in the media why don’t you ask him yourself if he’s really there or not?
Or find anyone who was in that incident who can testify or oppose his story in front of Duterte. It pisses me off when I see misleading article.

      • What’s the use of asking a pathological liar with personality disorder?

Why don’t you divert your attention to more alarming issues like ‘tanim-bala’ scam? Killings of kidapawan farmers? And another rape victim of some maniac priest? Mukha kayong pera! Mga bayaran to make a black propaganda against Duterte! Nothing can deter us from supporting Duterte!

      • I’m with you on this issue! This kind of black propaganda is distasteful. Duterte all the way

      • Again, may I remind the dudirty cults, sakit ba ng truth at hindi niyo matanggap…Hindi po black propaganda yan kasi FACTS po yan, just so you all know…

    9. People have to dig really deep to find mud to throw.

Cge game. Sabi ni mar 12 train car per month(144 a year).

Check mo payslip mo may philhealth deduction yan.

Parang mismatch no?

And just so you know (Ask the economist if you want) ang pinagmamayabang ng tuwad na daan na improvement sa economy natin gdp, inflation etc. Ay hindi dahil sa pamumuno ni abnoy. It was GMA who did it and abnoy is reaping the credits. GMA is a superb economist. So imagination lang din ni abnoy yan. Gising maam. Mas malala imahinasyon ng mga LP.

    10. sick or not sick psycho or not not dirty or duterte, lets go all to polling precinct lets vote…and only repent afterwards!

    11. Out of the rest of aspiring Presidentiables, Duterte is now being lambasted because of his rape joke of a dead Australian missionary. Now did he have necrophilic intentions though he uttered that joke? Of course not, but detractors would relate one to the other.

Now, the CBCP says Duterte is a rapist and on what grounds? Because he uttered that joke? Well good news for priests as of today and counting, the Catholic Church have been hounded by pedophilic issues since time immemorial.

Likewise if you would backtrack a bit concerning That Jalosjos multi-millionaire and ardent political supporter of partisan politics, he was consent ended to 132 years in perpetua by raping an 11 year old girl repeatedly. Do you know who supported his release? Marimar of course, then he turn coated to Binay and lately to Grace Pie, being the latter the daughter of his good friend kuno na Si FPJ.

In all instances, did anyone of these candidates ever bring up the rapist past of Jalosjos? Of course not, being that their political interests were being patronized by a wealthy and powerful individual.

So now at present we are here with Duterte who is being crucified for uttering a crass rape joke against priests and millionaires who did acts of pedophia and rape yet goes Scot free and without issues because they are well protected by institutions and politicians benefitting from their endorsements and influences.

That to me is a one sided partisan political maneuvering. So Mga trapo your time is up and counting.

He stopped a chinese drug lord who started to have a shabu factory in Toril here in Davao. Di lang gaano nailagay sa national news kasi nobody cares what happened in Davao. Kung maka judge kayo kay Duterte parang alam nyo siya when in fact galing lang sa bias media yung nakukuha nyong inpormasyon. I am from Davao and I am a living proof of the kindness and sincerity of Duterte in serving his fellow Davaoeños.

    12. Rod Ybardolaza on

Very good that Mr. Tiglao clearly confirmed the inconsistencies I detected in Duterte’s story. I read several newspaper links and even PDI 4-part series on the hostage tsking incident where the Australian missionary was killed and there was no mention of Duterte. Even in his comic book there was a frame shoeing him receiving info thru ICOM radio about the assault and subsequent killing of all the hostage takers. This indicated that he was not in the site.
If indeed Duterte was not there then what could be more despicable than making up a story and then spicing it up with the memory of a missionary rape victim just to prop up his image and ego. Even worse are the people who heard, laughed and applauded his bad joke. And the worst of all are the followers of Duterte rationalizing and justifying Duterte’s abhorrent actions.

      • tet valenzona on

Duterte’s story and narrative was true. I was one among the bystanders when that incident happened. My brother who once worked with REACT TEAM at that time could attest to that. They were the ones who took the dead bodies including of Ms. Hamill.

      • @ tet valenzona, words are empty…hearsay is not proof…if its true, support some evidences…nasa harap nyo na nga mga ebidensya, bulag bulagan pa din ang peg…

      • Facts can be misleading where rumors, true or false can be revealing.

        Hope you get that.

We often rely on written facts but truth is, more often it was never 100% true. There is always a side of story, be it a fact or a myth, that is either or false because of some circumstances ei lack of resources/info. Some of the comments above even cited wikipedia as a source of fact in which we all know its not credible. It all boils down sa credibility ng fact which is always base on our own perception. Hope you get my point here. So please stfu with your “factual” arguments.

      • @Ms. Duterte was there because it was a very dangerous moment in Davao City. The barraks was behind Maguindanao Hotel which is a few blocks away from the City hall and mayor was in coordination with Col. Calida. The reporters during that time would normally talk to the military and not to Duterte because the military did not allow Mayor Duterte to exchange himself as hostage because the snipers don’t have a direct line of sight. The barracks was well covered. It was an emotional day for Duterte because he felt that he has failed the victims and refused to be interviewed. But the Davaoeños didn’t blame Duterte for the incident because we all know he is willing to risk his life in exchange for those victims. I ask you, do you think the other 3 presidentiables are willing to negotiate with any hostage takers and risk their lives in exchange for the safety of others? Only Duterte talks to the NPA so that military and police captives be released. He has saved so many lives and yet it is not written of heard in public media because he is not a show-off or EPAL unlike the other political presidentiables.

      • If you want proof don’t read the news papers. Talk to the people of Davao City and you will find answers because we Davaoeños are your living proof and not some reporters na hindi o wala sa Davao during the said incident. Calida but the bystanders of Davao are the real witness. The news are sometimes fabricated and incomplete.

      • And it is obvious you are pro-dutertard unable to take any forms of criticism. See. I can reflect your idiotic statement back to you

      • You are obviously a paid Duterte troll. Research pa more.

      • Why don’t you read other articles by Mr. Tiglao? His articles are based on truth and facts. So don’t try to say he is pro-Mar.

      • mi I’m with you supporting Duterte! No to black propaganda. The truth will prevail.

      • Tiglao is just reading the news and judging what he saw on that picture. He should have interviewed Col. Calida rather than reading old news papers. If Talida is indeed a responsible columnist or writer he should have come here in Davao and ask the people here but no…. He is just as lazy as the other writers who sits on a chair and do his research in the internet and his intention is just to destroy the image of Duterte. Like I said. Duterte has already risk his life so many times you people devoted to the Yellow clan are very blind. Mar Binay and Poe in the 1989 are in there comfortable home while our mayor is doing his best turning a war zone into one of the most livable cities in the whole world namely Davao City. Tapos sirain nyo Mayor namin?

May I please be allowed to butt in? Who are we all to judge all the candidates? They don’t know any of us. They are not worried about y’all! So why argue against each other? You are the issue of our society. No president can fix our problems if you can’t even respect each other’s opinion.
Some of you might just be reading articles, articles that aren’t even reliable. Like this one. Who is he? Has he lived in Davao to prove all these? One photo or a crass joke do not support any of these accusations. Remember, little knowledge is dangerous.
I am from Mindanao and have experienced Davao. Of all the candidates, Duterte is the lesser evil. Everyone else has proven themselves not worthy of the highest seat in Malacanang.
You are all prosecuting the man not because of the apparent joke, you are prosecuting him because he is not an elitist, he is not as eloquent as Mar, he doesn’t dress up well like Poe, h has no palace like Binay. But he is the only one who has the best track record at walang bahid nag corruption.
So please, each to his own. I have Tatay Digong’s back.
So instead of saying something egative about him, why don’t you get yourselves busy campaigning the good stuff (if there is any) your candidates have?
        Just saying.

      • At lesser evil pa talaga ang diagnosed psycho? Murderer ng small time criminals at mga inosente na nasa wrong place lang at the wrong time…Evil yang Dudirty nyo, ang dali nyo lang malinlang…

      • Mayor Sanchez, was sentenced.. Mayor Duterte never ever sued for sexual harrasment in his entire life. CHR could not even proved their accusations, magka iba yun.

      • Duterte admits he has Acts of Lasciviousness case during the time na Gov ang father nya. Kaya he saved himself by touching the poor girl.
        KNOW YOUR CANDIDATE

    14. Mr. Tiglao, you seem too desperate to ruin the Mayor’s name. Panic mode na ba? I understand that you are being paid to do this. Nakakaawa nalang kayo ng nasa mainstream media. Your are doing everything to protect yourself and whatever investments you have. We all know that there will be a huge change coming, matakot na kayong lahat. It’s too late now.

      • @Ed VH change is good if it’s for the better pero kung obvious na makakasama dapat lang punahin at pigilan. Maganda economic growth momentun ng pinas ngayon. Economic experts around the world agrees that pinas ang isa sa may pinakamagandang economic fundamentals at outlook.

    16. gerson palomo on

To all Filipinos who still want corruption and dirty government in the Philippines, do not vote for Duterte. Let’s see if you don’t regret someday !

    17. I watched the videos. Duterte did mention there were two separate hostage incidents. The writer did a sloppy research I’m sorry.

      • What? You have a sloppy mind. Para kang si digong. Either sinungaling or ulyanin. Basa pa more para di ka masabihang tanga.

    18. The people dont care the dirty mouth and gutter language of Duterte what is important to them is somebody that could save them from poverty and make there home safety from the criminals and drug addicts and among the Presidentiables only Duterte has the will to do it.

      • rodelio ilaga on

Then MDS is the answer. Tough, respectable and with in depth knowledge of national and international laws. The kind of president you can be proud of.

      • It’s you, me, and the rest of us who will save us from poverty and not by one person you though as your lord.

      • It is a fantasy to think that one man can (or even intends) to clean up the corruption in the Philippines. Dream on….

      • what is this “will” I keep hearing about?

you know crimes and drug addiction scenarios most likely occur from lower social economic stat quos.

I need a president who will focus on poverty. If we follow this route, we will fail like mexico and their battle against drugs

    19. HI, obviously you are anti-Duterte! you think Duterte is deceiving the public by his statement, but if you listen to his statement again or watch the video again, it will be clear to you that Duterte was talking about two different hostage taking incidents…..

      • Your Dudirty is the one deceiving you…Read the articles again, sa 1st hostage crisis na andun siya walang barilan at wala ang australianang misionaryo…Kung maka grab ng credit ang dudirty nyo, bongga na as if siya ang hero sa 2nd hostage at bumaril sa mga natirang hostage-takers…Di na nahiya na malalaman ang kasinungalingan niya, ginawa pang joke ang patay na missionary na na rape na nga..Gumising kayo at uminon ng reality pill, wag magbubulag bulagan sa actual na nangyari at sa mga pautot na lies ni dudirty manyak..

    20. Duterte is the kind of leader who doesn’t want his name being written as a hero. Kaya siguro wala ang pangalan niya sa mga articles na yan, because the moment should really belong to the men in uniform.

      • Pocholo Cara on

Duterte was OIC-Vice Mayor, appointed by Cory. Zaf Respicio was the OIC-Mayor. Duterte became mayor in the first election after EDSA 1.

Kung di maging presidente si Duterte it will please him because he won’t have to carry the burden that this country have.

    21. Sure, you can fix a bad mouth, but can you quickly (within six years?) treat a dirty necrophiliac mind? What will you tell all those parents whose daughters have been raped and killed? Naunahan pa ako! DUDIRTY is NOWHERE NEAR the leader anyone needs now.

      • andie delgado on

Mawalang galang na embiti and all who call duterte a necrophile, first of all necrophilia is a mental disease that urges a person to have sex with a cadaver or corpse, in which im sure u and I agree that he said “naunahan pa ako…” Yet unless you are gay you wont understand the figurative meaning of the phrase. And whether or not he is there I don’t care, the issue here is who can make the country peaceful and prosper, lessen the criminality and drugs problem. You don’t like a duterte so be it. But don’t be a “know-it-all” since your statement does not fit the words that you say. Check your dictionary again about necrophilia so is this writer

    23. Nick Torreon on

We don’t knew whether this writer or Digong is true but if what Digong said was not true then some Soldiers or Col. Calida have to step up and tell the truth. I’m still sticking to Digong not because of this but because of what he did in Davao and what he can do to Federalism. Why are we still sticking to this failed system whom the other three will continue if they win the presidency? For thirty years we are still behind from other Asian Nations and Binay, Poe, and Roxas were in higher post before but did not do anything to push us up. Most of us are still poor and victims of crimes and injustices. It is time for us to make a change. It is time for us to choose the right leader.

      • Carmen Agnes Wakamatsu on

Economy of the Philippines is growing and our country is well respected internationally. And whatever happened in Davao’s economic growth had nothing to do with Duterte..please research to know the truth and open your mind.

      • precisely why COL LOGICO is now setting the record straight. duterte should be ashamed of himself. but sociopaths don’t feel shame, do they?

    24. I have a classmate who was a young Captain during 1989 and was part of the assault team. He is now retired and campaigning strongly for Mayor Digong. He narrated to me some details of that tragic event. Jess Dureza has also shared a story about it. Question why both did not refute Mayor Digong’s story?

    25. Duterte exchanged himself as hostage during the 1st hostage taking. yang si pugoy, patay na sana yan pero ayaw ni cory kaya ipinakulong na lang. dun sa kulungan nanghostage na naman…dyan na yung sinasabing maraming napatay. Col. Calida is now a politician in Davao del Sur and Duterte’s account are all true.

Pero the photo shows that her body was not yet recovered during te assault. It was stil on the ground.

    26. nestor g zamora on

It is very unfortunate that a good number of Filipinos has already degenerated into this outrageous mindset. They have become blind followers of a man very sick in the mind and are willing to be led to the abyss. This does not bode well for the very near future. Win or lose, the sick man could call upon these blind followers to wreak havoc and we will be faced with a zombie situation. These followers have already been infected with the deadly virus and nothing can stop them except a hard-hitting bash in the head.

      • so you are saying that you are not blind? only those who want to vote for duterte are blind. wow, just vote for your candidate and we blind followers will vote for duterte. we are sick and tired with traditional politicians. we are not asking you to vote for duterte.

    27. i watched again the interview of Duterte, by that interview he mentioned that the 2 incidents are separate.

    28. sige sundan natin ang news paper kahit di naman lahat totoo sinulat mga yan…sabi sa newspaper “most of the hostages were slain by their captors before the assasult” at “hamil was raped before she was killed”, sabi din sa newspaper, “Hamil MAY have been shot by the soldier”, now why would a soldier shot her and why na lusubin ang kuta nila kung buhay pa ang mga hostage?, at saka ang body ni hamil was DUMPED OPUTSIDE THE DETENTION CENTRE, so it is safe to say that pwedeng na retrieve ng mga opisyal ang body niya…sabi din ni calida, “TASK WAS GIVEN TO US”, so may NAG ORDER?, sinong nag order?…so there are flaws of your accusations mr tiglao, hindi ako abogado, I’m just a follower/reader pero alam ko ang binabasa ko, jsut be fair…alam kong mali si meyor digong sa pagdeliver niya ng kwento sa rally, pero in 1989, certainly IT WAS NOT A JOKE!

      • you are stupid if you believe to all news you read LOL , the credibility of journalist /media are long gone.

      Yes to FEDERALISM.
      Yes to CHANGE.
Yes to Duterte,a truly native Filipino

    30. only Digong has guts to apologize , …. how about the rest of the self righteous politicians? Don’t they have the gusts to apologize for their mistakes ?

        \

    31. pendulum effect talaga… the past six years brought a huge vacuum of leadership, a government full of indecisive, incompetent, mediocre, lazy, malicious, self-serving members of this country’s pathetic elite. duterte will win because the people who will vote for him are looking for some semblance of strong leadership.

    32. If my memory serves me right. this incident was investigated by the senate and one of the witnesses summoned was Mayor Duterte. I think to be a witness your presence is required. You can review the senate records of the proceedings and decide what is true.

      • Yes, the Senate cleared him, after finding that he didn’t hava a role at all in that incident.

    33. Another PAID writer.. how mouch money did they put in your mouth to get lies out of it.

      • As I posted in my FB, When you criticize Duterte, or just try to clarify what he stands for, or present facts that do not agree with their image of him, his supporters reply only in three ways:
        1) Were you paid by Mar, Poe, or Binay?
        2) Basta Duterte ako, ano man ang ipaliwanag mo. (Unfollow nga kita).
        3) Putangina mo. Leche ka.
May fourth reply pala, which I got just today
        4) Mamatay ka na sana.
        So predictable these fanatics.

    34. The blood of the father indeed runs in the vein of the daughter. Clearly, Duterte is a charming liar. He made up stories to make him look good because of his desire for absolute power and attention. And now comes his daughter, who is also clearly lying by making up a story that she was also raped. This lying is a ploy to deflect the criticisms and disgust of the people for her father’s sick joke. You can also clearly the lying pattern of Duterte on his flip-flopping stance on many issues.

I ask, is this the person and the family that we want to occupy Malacanang?

Have we lost our self-worth, our dignity? What would other nation think of us?

    35. Kulang2x nmn itong info ni Mr. Tiglao. Why not get a more reliable source from Congress or ask a copy of the report instead.

Well, of course, I shall not be expecting your name to be written down here as you have FACTUALLY NOT offered yourself a hostage, yet, in someone’s stead for love of country and fellow Filipino. Oh btw, i reckon, there had been a serious number of hostage -taking incidents that happened in our country at a time you were already in goverment service. Were you aware of these let alone your patriotic oath?

    38. REPOST …from former Agusan del Sur Gov.Paredes. This event was happened 4 months before the hostage-taking in now Camp Leonor in Davao City.
It was a correct recollection of the incident because I was with mayor Duterte at that time when we heard the news that a group of wives and children of DAPECOL(Davao penal colony) guards were taken hostage by convicts and was cornered along the Davao -Agusan highway boundary. We proceed to the area by helicopter and what horrified me was that when we disembark ,the mayor just gave me his service pistol and told me to stay in a distance as he went directly to the hostage takers.
Everybody was surprised including the convicts who immediately put a knife on the mayor’s neck. But the mayor calmly talk to them and persuaded them to release the hostages. The convicts demand to talk to then President Cory Aquino which was an impossible demand. The mayor convince them to do just what they wanted but they have to do it at city hall in Davao city where he has a direct line to the president. To ensure the safety of the hostages and to assure the convicts of his sincerity, he offered himself be taken hostage. He then told me to ride back with the chopper and go straight to his house and pick up a pair of dry clothes and bring it to city hall. As we fly back to the city, I saw mayor Duterte at the back of one of 2 vehicles full of hostages, with a knife pointed on his neck for a 5 hour drive to the city.
At the city hall, he spent the whole evening talking to the hostage takers. He made sure that the hostages are taken cared of. The next day, the convicts finally release the hostages. Everyone of them and not a single soul was harmed.
If it were the other candidates, they would have advertised it to the fullest. They might make a comic book just like what Mar Roxas did about Yolanda. But mayor Duterte never even bragged about it. Here comes a leader who is willing to put his life on the line for his people and never claims credit for his effort.
We are all hostages to the system. We are being held hostage by criminals and corrupt government officials. We need someone like RODRIGO DUTERTE who is willing to take a knife on his neck just to make sure that we will not be harmed and be freed from the system that makes our life miserable.
SHARE THIS SO THE PEOPLE MAY KNOW.

The incident was the second, at Davao metrodiscom stockade

      • Sir yung point po nya is Duterte already risk his life to save the hostages.

    39. Pocholo Cara on

      Mr. Tiglao,

Point out ko lang, Col. Calida was Metrodiscom head, he was police, not military. Also, first hostage incident (at Dapecol) was also led by Pugoy. Site of the second hostage-taking and assault was at PC Barracks (as Davaoeños refer to it), at downtown Davao.

Reserving my judgment but great article as usual.

You heard of reports about “embalmer” (embalsamador) having sexual act with a dead woman before cleaning her organs?

DUDIRTY’s FANTASY! He is attracted to a dead woman and could utter “dirty joke” to generate votes from his one-celled amoeba, non thinking supporters and leaders.

I am beginning to believe, Dudirty has a “sick mind, has a sick soul.”

He was trying to say that he “killed 16 inmates” with his UZI after the rape, a cinematic make believe story.

Necrophilia, also called thanatophilia, is a sexual attraction or sexual act involving corpses. The attraction is classified as a paraphilia by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) of the American Psychiatric Association.

    41. For us to demand from a 71 years old man a detailed account of the incident in 1989 is too much. Of course he joked, so what? He was not joking about the raped victim. He was joking about his own weakness towards opposite sex. What’s new? He admits that. But, do you think a 71 years old who will become a president will still have the capacity to exercise his hedonistic tendencies? I doubt. Now we go to what he can do as president……………

    42. Duterte to my assessment is not a world class leader. He talks with his big mouth first without thinking its implications and repercussions, that’s why he is often criticized by the majority. It would be a tragedy to the philippines if he will be elected to malacanang.

    43. Romeo Javellana on

Duterte is the kind of leader that our country needs now. Forgive his bad mouth and appreciate what he can and will do for our country. This is our country and we know that our country needs emergency repair and reconstruction. We are on the verge of collapsing as a nation, where our leaders took pride of stealing people’s money, ignore illegal drugs (but rather protecting them), don’t see criminality and even don’t listen to the people’s clamor for a better government. No matter what, i would still ask our voters to cast their vote for CHANGE.
Bad mouth can be easily fixed.

      • You’re missing the point of this article. Bukod sa insensitive – if not downright maleducado – joke niya, may pagkasinungaling din siya (o baka nag-uulyanin na).

      • The first thing he has to change is his attitude and his foul mouth. As the president he should project dignity and proper decorum in the office he is aspiring for.

      • People, wake up! Since he announced his bid for Presidency, Duterte and his cohorts have directly caused the Kidapawan fiasco and the public relations fallout on the Philippines. How do you think the rest of the world views us now? You think investments will come in with this madman as Pres? May I remind you that no investments means no jobs, no income, and more poor people, leading to increased crime rates. It’s as simple as that: a Duterte presidency means more crime and the downfall of our economy.

      • If he can’t fix his bad mouth now, if he can’t admit his joke was sick now, when will he? Here you see a man not admitting his faults even when pointed out.

And I totally agree with previous comment, you are totally missing the point of the article.

      • Mr Duterte has created a solid block of voters who are convinced that he is the Filipino messiah who will solve the deep and complicated cycle of criminality in the Philippines once and for all. These supporters probably value this hope above all else. The hope that Mr Duterte will solve this problem in the Philippines makes these supporters readily forgiving of any unprincipled behaviour that Mr Duterte may have done, is doing or will do. They seem willing to subordinate all other equally important values and principles to this promise of deliverance by Mr Duterte.

His supporters always point to the success of Davao as Mr. Duterte’s full credentials for the top job in the Philippines. Do all the data regarding Davao’s success point to Mr Duterte as the catalyst/source of all the good that has been happening in Davao? How about its populations’ initiative, talent and great attitude which are all grounded on principles such as perseverance, temperance, kindness, discernment, etc? How about foreign aids- the biggest of which is from Australia ($83M just in 2015-2016)? One fact is that AusAid (Australian Aid) scholarships and projects have been targeted for Mindanao for many years now and as such most masteral and PhD scholars past and present are from Davao. Many of them have settled in Australia. These people would have contributed much to the wealth circulating in Davao.

How sustainable is Mr Duterte’s brand of justice? Will it not create more problems than it solves in the long run? We all know that justice and mercy should be carefully balanced to be effective- as such the symbol for justice is a balancing scale being held by the goddess of the moral force. A lifelong habit of temperance and wisdom will render a more effective and enduring justice system. An aggressive approach may work for the time being, but if it is against sound principles, will it last?

Many of his supporters also point to the success of Singapore under Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s disciplinarian approach. But LKY was promoted/voted by his fellow parliamentarians as their prime minister because they intimately knew and believed in his great character and skills.

What kind of governing atmosphere will prevail if Mr. Duterte gets into power? Wouldn’t he also choose like-minded, similarly behaved people within his circle of leadership? Or perhaps he might opt for “yes” people who he knows will be easily intimidated by his ego strength-that way, he can expedite all his action plans? Will decent and effective people with opposite principles and values to him stick around? What kind of character legacy amongst other leaders will he leave behind?

I hope that the Philippines will have a good ruler after May 9th. Or at least someone who will not plunge the country into social and moral upheaval in the short or long term because such a situation will flow on to a massive economic disaster and all that cycle of bad life will happen more often, more prolonged, to more families. And the poorest are usually the first to bear the brunt of this evil cycle of life where criminality is the most obvious symptom.

Sadly, even first world countries have always had their fair share of poverty and criminality. And as always, criminality is more entrenched in very low socio-economic suburbs. Only progressive styles of local and state leadership involving job creations, education and meaningful community activities have managed to make significant and enduring solutions to some of these suburbs. But even first world countries don’t always have enough resources to deal with these problems.

After 20 years of living abroad, I have seen many improvements in the Philippines both in Metro Manila and in the provinces particularly in the last decade. I’m happy to see that the present generation of Filipinos is living a lot better off than the previous generations. Even my village in one of the remotest parts of Luzon has had significant lifestyle improvements. I believe that the pace of progress in the Philippines is well on tract. A decent, intelligent and discerning top leader is what the country needs to maintain or hasten the pace or at least not fall backwards.

I believe that as an individual, a family or society, a value- based approach to any issues in life will eventually prove to have more enduring and permanent success. As David Starr Jordan once said, “There is no real excellence in all this world which can be separated from right living.”

      • One of these days I will write a long article proving that you are totally wrong. The growth of Mindanao, other than the fact that it has been the country’s Mindanao’s main trade hub since the 1900s (which means growth in Manila and Mindanao’s provinces) was due to the massive infrascture investmetns US, Japanese and Australian aid poured into it after Cory Aquino took over, such as the Davao to CDO road that opened up Bukidnon, FVR’s BIMP-EAGA program, and later administration’s projects such as the Davao International Airport.

      • Selya’s right. You’re missing the point. How can he say he can discipline the 110 Millions Filipinos if he cannot discipline himself first?

    44. So in all of these brouhaha over the last couple of days, not one of those soldiers who were part of the assulting team ever had the balls, guts and righteousness to make a public statement that Mr. Dee Gong could not have been present physically prior to the actual moments of assault nor could Mr. Dee Gong have ordered the assault himself? Well, I can understand when intelligence officers would rather lie low than open themselves up in public but how about those soldiers who participated in the actual operations? Don’t they have the machismo to disprove one lying comic or they are still afraid that one of those in the DSS might silence them should they talk? Then, if soldiers are afraid even when he is not yet the president, Juan dela Cruz should rather assess whether he can overcome his fear if Mr. Dee Gong becomes the President indeed and the president starts lying.

      • Those soldiers would be senior citizens by now. They probably do not have interest in facebook as they would love to enjoy their time with their loved ones. And why still look for the soldiers statements when news archive already exists. Either you do not want to research or just to blind to understand that it is unethical to make a rape joke. What made it worse was Duterte made a rape joke on a dead person. What makes it vile is it is being covered up with a lie.

      • Ringo i dont know if your an inutil or tanga…if soneone can dig into archives then why not ask infos to the people who are there when it happend in the firstplace..sa uri ng media ngayon tanga lng na kstulad mo ang maniniwala sa ganting artikulo…maaring may tama pro marami ding msli just to revert the facts n ung joke ay ggawing seryosong usapan…

    45. Duterte’s admirers love to portray him riding in his harley davidson on the streets of Davao looking for criminals to shoot.

    46. “He did manage to get himself taken as hostage. But this happened in another hostage incident in April, in the Davao Penal Colony or four months before the August carnage, which was ended peacfully. His sick joke involved the August 13-15 crisis at the Davao Metrodiscom stockade, in which Hamill and 15 others were killed.”

so, Duterte must have confused the 2 separate hostage incidents and thought they were the same hostage incident wherein Duterte was held hostage.

    47. Maybe your recount of this fateful incident is true and I doubt the courage of Duterte in actual gun battle. Duterte is like Alfredo Lim they have a lot of summary executions but not gun battle. I have seen Lim video footage attacking PTV 4 but he was taking cover and doing a Rambo attacked then. But at the end of the day now people does not care anymore because they have idolized Rudy Duterte like what the did to Erap in 1998. No one can stop Duterte to the presidency unless they will cheat and same is true for Bongbong.

      • Another psycho for a president.. after nitong naupong isa… only of a different kind.
        Another 6 years kung nagkataon.

A person so unperturbed by his public womanizing (tinalo pa si erap) that when i talk with some davaoenos having seen their mayor in manila .. sasabihin palagi .. “sino kasamang babae”.
There could be some demented level nang values at kinakailangan mong hayagang ipakita.

Saying things to contrary to what is true gaya na hindi naman pala siya ang kasama sa paglusob .. and what level of a psychotic mind would state years after the fact that ” “Kinuha ko ang Uzi ko sa trailer ko, at nilusob sila. Brtt. Inubos ko nga ang magazine ng Uzi. Ayon. Patay sila.”

    48. Something is really wrong with his mindset and it is understandable because he is already 71 years old. Now who is using who ? ..And his followers are like zombies, getting crazy when the feedback is not of their liking…

      • ONLY 1 PHOTO? there is a lot more photos SHOWING DUTERTE IS IN THE ASSAULT. IT IS EVEN MADE INTO A MOVIE
        WATCH PUGOY HOSTAGE DAVAO
        starring Ian Verenacion as Pugoy
        Lito Legaspi as Duterte

      • show me the photos and I’ll retract my story. And not stills from fiction movies ha?

      • The movie that Ian Veneracion played was a joke. Pugoy did not ride an armored vehicle to escape his way out. The Hamill was a leading lady in that movie. My God the movie was a lie that is way it was banned in Davao because the made a criminal a hero in that movie.

    49. Duterte could certainly use a bidet to wash away all the excrement coming out of his mouth.

Mr. Tiglao…. gidula lang mo ni Digong. Sa nakakilala sa tunay na Digong…. there is truth behind his story. Know him well… I mean his other him. Thanks.

    51. Mr Tiglao, cmon man that same image you use, you can find an article in a newpaper in the USA (link: https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=DeBLAAAAIBAJ&sjid=S4sDAAAAIBAJ&pg=1292%2C3403679), and you can read from there: But in Canberra. Australian’s Foreign Minister said Ms. Hamill may have been killed by soldiers when the convicts tried to break out of the jail hours before the troops stormed it.

The convicts then retreated. So it is feasible that the bodies were carried out before the soldiers stormed the metrodiscom. See, applying the same deduction you did, evidences can be found to support Digong’s claim, as all of us can only speculate as we were not there. We will always have our own interpretation. So be fair man! try googling just a bit more… you were not there, I was there in Davao and with conviction, he was part of the whole thing in April and in August, 1989. As to the hero part, true Calida was the main negotiator as he told us, in August, Pugoy refused to talk to him anymore.

      • A LL OF THIS IS JUST THE ASSUMPTION OF THE WRITER. MISINFORMATION SHOULD HAVE A PENALTY AND DESERVES TO BE IN JAIL

      • Movie?

      • There you go, there’s your eyewitness. You can also ask former Agusan del Sur Governor Ceferino Paredes, Jr. who posted:

“REPOST …from former Agusan del Sur Gov.Paredes

We need someone like RODRIGO DUTERTE who is willing to take a knife on his neck just to make sure that we will not be harmed and be freed from the system that makes our life miserable.”

      • This was about the first hostage situation, not the second in which Ms. Hamill was raped and killed, and Duterte made the sick comment, which he repeated 27 years later, “Putangina. Ang ganda. Dapat nauna ang Mayor!

    52. I have also read the newsclips in FB and I can only surmise that Duterte was only grabbing credit where it was not due.

    53. When and how can we Filipino people get rid of this sex maniac liar? I agree with DeLima that it is frightening to have Duterte win the elections. If the older Duterte is so “fresh” (mayabang), how much more to his addict children who are very abusive to the Davao residents. As what the bishops are asking for, let us all pray to save the Filipino people from this maniac candidate.
