HELL week startedstarted for thousands of residents in some parts of Metro Manila and Cavite as Maynilad Water Services started implementing its rotating utility service interruptions on Monday.
Maynilad previously announced that affected areas will experience rotating water interruptions ranging from 12 hours to 41 hours, starting at 1 p.m. Monday until 10 p.m. Thursday, and from 1 p.m Monday to 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Among the affected cities in Metro Manila are the cities of Pasay, Makati, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Manila and Caloocan and Cavite City, Bacoor City, Imus City, Kawit, Rosario and Noveleta, all in Cavite.
Maynilad said the water cutoff was made to give way to a flood-control project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The DPWH is realigning its primary line along Juan Luna Street and Hermosa Street in Tondo, Manila.
Noel Ignacio, who operates a canteen in Intramuros, Manila, said he has filled up six barrels and 30 bottles of water.
“Maynilad said there would be a water interruption for four days. Of course, we have a canteen, we need to have water. Kami rin ang mawawalan. [It’ll be our loss if we don’t save],” he told this paper.
“Water is important for us. It’s a necessity for washing and cooking. If you have scarce water, you need to conserve.”
When asked if he has any violent reaction to the inconvenience of Maynilad’s operation, he said: “Talagang ganon talaga eh, tanggapin na lang [It’s always like that. Let’s just accept it].”
At the Palacio del Governador in Intramuros where the Commission on Elections holds office, visitors and employees were fanning themselves as air-conditioners were shut off due to low water supply. On the 7th floor, a utility personnel was assigned to ration water to toilet users.
Some turned to Twitter to vent their ire — with a tinge of humor — over the inconvenience they experienced.
Twitter user Santi @coastrs said: “lmao (laughing my arse off) andaming absent bukas kasi: (a) unfinished homeworks, reaction papers, etc (b) may sore eyes (that is alarming !!!) and (c) walang tubig!!
Another user, paBEBEn @itsbeben11 used an excerpt from an iconic dialogue in the 1980s film Temptation Island as she said, “ Walang tubig, walang kuryente. E di magsayawan na lang tayo!”
