Weaving pearls, weaving dreams


The Technological University of the Philippines conducted the “Art Jewelry Entrepreneurship” from July 26 to 31. In collaboration with the National Commission Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and St. Gabriel Workshop, the event was part of the Technology and Nutrition Week of the College of Industrial Technology.

Thirty-seven Apparel and Fashion Technology (AFT) students on their second year participated at the event.

The workshop was headed by master artist Fray Paolo and Maria Diosdado Casurao.

Paolo taught the nine mandatory exercises using the plastic beads and the weaving design using the real pearls and garnets. He was assisted by Anita Santos, Josephine Soriano and Imari Balatucan.

The AFT students exerted time and effort to finish all the mandatory exercises during the weeklong workshop. This was to ensure that quality of the finished products for they are planned to be exhibited in Italy in October.

Meanwhile, Annalyn Gebe together with Merryl Joseph and Jonathan Domingo organized the event. Supporting the endeavor are Prof. Araceli Rosario, Food and Apparel Technology Department, Dr. Gisela Rolluqui, dean of the College, Dr. Olympio Caparas, University president, and Emelita Almosara, executive director of NCCA.
