Wesley finishes 18th Qatar Masters Open


Filipino Grandmaster Wesley So lost to GM Yu Yangyi of China in the final round to settle for 18th place in the 2015 Qatar Masters Open held at the Aspire Zone in Doha, Qatar. So ended his campaign with 5.5 points while Yu and GM Magnus Carlsen of Norway shared the top spot with seven points apiece. However, Carlsen took the top honors via tiebreak points, leaving Yu in the second place. Carlsen bagged the $25,000 top purse while Yu claimed the $15,000 runner-up prize. Sharing the third place with 6.5 points were GM Vladimir Kramnik of Russia, GM Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine, GM Sergey Karjakin of Russia, GM Ni Hua of China and GM Sanan Sjugirov of Russia. The group of six-pointers were GM Anish Giri of the Netherlands, GM Yu Yinglun of China, GM Surya Shekhar Ganguly of India, GM Pendyala Harikrishna of India, GM Ruslan Ponomariov of Ukraine, GM Vladimir Akopian of Armenia, GM Jan-Krzysztof Duda of Poland, GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son of Vietnam, GM Nikita Vitiugov of Russia and GM SP Sethuraman of India.
