• Wesley resumes campaign in Tata Steel Chess tourney


    Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So resumes his bid when he battles GM Hou Yifan of China in the fifth round of the 2015 Tata Steel Chess Tournament being held in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands.

    So, who represents the United States Chess Federation, is currently in a tie for fourth place with 2.5 points on one win and three draws.

    He stunned defending champion GM Levon Aronian of Armenia in the third round and settled to a draw with GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek of Poland in the first, reigning world champion GM Magnus Carlsen of Norway in the second and GM Fabiano Caruana of Italy in the fourth.

    So far, GM Vasil Ivanchuk of Ukraine is in solo lead with 3.5 points with three wins and a draw while Caruna and GM Ding Liren of China are in the second position with three points each.

    After meeting Hou, the 21-year-old So tackles GM Baadur Jobava of Georgia (sixth round), GM Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan (seventh round), Ivanchuk(eighth round), GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France (ninth round), Ding (10th round), GM Ivan Saric of Croatia (11th round), GM Anish Giri of the Netherlands (12th round) and GM Loek Van Wely of the Netherlands (13th round).

    The other fifth-round pairings are Carlsen vs. Aronian, Wojtaszek vs. Caruana, Ding vs. Ivanchuk, Giri vs. Jobava, Saric vs. Radjabov and Vachier-Lagrave vs. Van Wely.
