FILIPINO Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So settled to a draw with American GM Hikaru Nakamura in the second round on Monday in the 76th Tata Steel Tournament Masters being held in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands.
So and Nakamura split the point after 27 moves of Semi-Slav Defense in the Category A of the tournament. The draw was good enough for So to remain on top with 1.5 points. Also with the same score are Nakamura, top seed GM Levon Aronian of Armenia, GM Sergey Karjakin of Russia and GM Anish Giri of the Netherlands.
Aronian dominated GM Fabiano Caruana of Italy after 58 moves of English Symmetrical while Giri overwhelmed GM Arkadij Naiditsch of Germany after 33 moves of Bogo Indian Defense.
Karjakin also drew with GM Pentala Harikrishna of India after 40 moves of Queen’s Gambit Declined while GM Richard Rapport of Hungrary defeated GM Boris Gelfand of Israel after 60 moves of Budapest Defense Main Line.
In other result, GM Leinier Dominguez of Cuba agreed to a draw with GM Loek Van Wely of the Netherlands after 26 moves of Sicilian Early Fianchetto skirmish.
In the third round, So will be facing Naiditsch, Harikishna takes on Dominguez, Caruana battles Kajakin, Rapport meets Aronian, Nakamura fights Gelfand, and Van Wely tackles Giri.
