• Western Union treats veterans

To honor war veterans and active military servicemen on Veterans Day, Western Union will not collect fees on money transfers on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The company said the free transactions will cover US domestic money transfers and transfers to and from US military bases around the world where Western Union has a retail agent location. Customers using the promo code “HERO” will not be charged any fee.

Customers can visit wu.com to find an agent location.

The company said their money transfer services are tapped by military personnel who have not established a checking account and need to receive funds for basic support and emergency needs.

A service member on temporary assignment can also have their money wired instead of opening a bank account in the area where they were deployed. Servicemen can also send money to their spouses and children through the company.
