• Western Visayas notes crime rate reduction


    ILOILO CITY: The Police Regional Office (PRO-6) based at Camp Martin Delgado here has noted the significant reduction of crime incidents in Western Visayas from July 1 to August 31, 2016 with relentless campaign against illegal drugs in the region. PRO 6 information officer, Supt. Gilbert Gorero, said the crime reduction is attributed largely to the implementation of Project Tokhang and Project Double Barrel. For the period, 612 drug suspects were arrested and 11 killed during police operations. Of the total number, 137 were users and 475 were pushers. The crime volume recorded 6,035 cases which is 351 or 7.31 percent lower compared to 6,772 crime incidents during the same period of 2015. Of the 6,035 cases, 1,261 are index crimes or crimes committed against persons and properties while 4,774 are non-index or violations of special laws or local ordinances. Index crime recorded the highest was theft from 1,061 last year to 469 in the same period of this year with a total 592 or 55.80 percent less; physical injury from 627 to 503 which is 19.78 percent or 124 less; and robbery from 196 to 114 posting 41.84 percent reduction.
