In 1998, Filipino individuals who share a love for the music of Austrian composer Johann Strauss decided to establish a society in honor his name and his music.
Now on its 18th year, the Johann Strauss Society of the Philippines proudly continues to pursue its objectives to develop and enhance the appreciation and love for dance and music especially to the youth, as well as to organize and conduct special events that will serve as venues for cultural and social exchanges.
Thankful as ever, I was once again invited to a kaleidoscope of Austrian music organized by the society. In March 2, they presented A Kaleidoscope of Austria Music at the New World Hotel Makati featuring concertos from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) president Raul Sunico on the piano, music from Johann Brahms, Johann Strauss 11 and Franz Lehar. It was conducted by Dr. Ernest Hoetzl with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.
Master of ceremony of the program was sought-after and a personal favorite, the Mr. Johnny Litton.
The evening was highlighted with the induction of the new members who will surely help the society in their different activities this year.
And because the society also aims to raise funds for cultural and charitable causes, the concert is one way for the society to support CCP in the areas of audience development, the Young Artists Scholarship Programme and the Arts for the People Programme. Each year they have presented different cultural a social events like the Debutantes’ Ball, Dinner Musicales and other varied activities.
Congratulations to the hardworking officers of the society led by Chairman Fortune Ledesma, president Olga Severino Martel, vice president Agnes Huibonhua and treasurer Virginia Lane.
See you next year for another fun filled event!
