If you’ve ever wondered what the words “Gore-Tex Technology” mean from billboards across the metro, which also carry blown up photos of beautiful faces, then this article will finally define them for you.
Gore-Tex Technology is a very specific kind of rhinoplasty or nose lifting method developed in Korea. In the Philippines, Shimmian Aesthetic Center founder Dr. Levi John Lansangan is the first certified facial plastic surgeon to offer the said cosmetic procedure having taken his fellowship training in Seoul.
“I’m a specialist in advanced reconstructive rhinoplasty and facial aesthetic procedures, employing what is referred to as ‘facial harmony’,” Dr. Lansangan explained to The Manila Times. “I established Shimmian in 2005 upon returning from my fellowship in South Korea and established the same techniques I learned there. Korea is of course renowned for their extensive research on the nasal anatomy and developing technology on nasal reconstruction.”
Working among nasal surgery masters for several years, the Filipino cosmetic surgeon adapted the Gore-Tex Technology with Cartilage Grafting, a technique which results in a safe, worry-free, and silicone-free noselift. The procedure uses FDA-approved material for the repair or enhancement of the soft tissues of the facial area including nasal augmentation.
Asked what makes the Gore-Tex a good implant material, Dr. Lansangan explained. “Healing with Gore-Tex is by incorporation. Unlike with silicone implant wherein the tissues simply encapsulate around the implant, Gore-Tex allows the surrounding tissues to grow within and through it thus eliminating material rejection, eventual nasal contractions and other complications.”
With Gore-Tex attracting interest among Filipinos, Dr. Lansangan is more eager to spread awareness about the procedure, and has recently partnered with top hair and makeup artist Lourd Ramos’s Creations Salon to provide current and potential clients “shimmian.”
“Shimmian [pronounced "shi-mi-en”]means beauty that comes from the heart,” the doctor continued. “This new journey with Lourd is therefore anchored on paying closer attention on what women have been searching for—aesthetics and a salon in a one-stop shop.”
The joint venture aims to cater realities that demand close attention in their respective expertise, say for example the perfect nose that will harmonize with the rest of the face, including one’s haircut.
“It’s a holistic approach to aesthetics and we are very positive the concept will appea to many,” Dr. Lansa- ngan concluded.
The one-stop Shimmian and Creations Salon is located at Cedar Executive Bldg., along Pasay Road in Makati City.
