The BOC Chief insisted that they are just enforcing the law by inspecting Balikbayan boxes. The chief also emphatically said that if there are items lost in the boxes, the complainants should report and file a formal complaint regarding the matter. True. But I think the good chief is just trying to appeased the already enraged citizens of this country. Maybe he doesn’t know or maybe just maybe turning a deaf ear regarding the issue that the BOC is now reaping the tongue lashing and lambasting of the enraged citizenry. The Filipino people by nature is a very tolerant people. But when a saturation point is reached, the Filipino will also fight back and retaliate like a cornered animal ready to defend itself and its possession(s). These Kababayan of ours who are abroad and sending back home the things their family needs are already in their saturation point, hence the never-ending tirade against the said agency. For years, these OFWs Balikbayan boxes were coveted by many in the Bureau and we have heard of many complaints but we still have to know if someone was charged, dismissed, or even reprimanded for such an act. The BOC has been and – I hope I am wrong – will always be one of the foulest and its personnel were branded with the most unsavory names and remarks. Until such time, someone from the BOC itself will come along and clean their own mess, then the name of this agency will stench for all times.
