It’s not only during Oktoberfest that beer-drinking is observed in the country. Actually, beer is long considered by Filipinos as a staple alcohol during happy hours or simple gatherings, adding flavor to conversations throughout the night.

But did you ever wonder why you often feel more energetic and creative after drinking a bottle or two of beer?

Beer contains B-vitamins, and minerals like calcium and magnesium, which are derived from the raw materials from which beer is brewed. The B-group vitamins play essential role in cell metabolism for energy production from the food you eat.

The popular San Miguel Pale Pilsen, for instance, is made from a mixture of water, malted barley, cereal grains, hops and yeast. It uses malted barley and cereals as its carbohydrate source. Hops are added to impart bitterness and characteristic aroma to the beer. Brewing process converts the complex carbohydrates into simple sugars which are fermented by the yeast to produce this alcoholic beverage.

Beer also makes your creative juices flowing. A study in US in April 2013 has revealed that drinking beer is good when you are searching for an initial idea. It focuses your brainpower on making connections. Beer frees up your brain to think creatively.

In celebration of Oktoberfest, The Manila Times has gathered more reasons to enjoy beer, while being energized and getting a creative boost.
