A running club coach lists the benefits of the excercise
Running, when done with proper coaching and the right shoes, is an incredibly effective way of getting fit. It provides a variety of benefits that will help one look good and feel better about oneself.
Nike + Run Club coach Ian Banzon gives five reasons why running should be part of daily exercise.
Running improves blood circulation and cardiovascular health. Going for a run, no matter how short or long, increases heart rate, which helps improve blood circulation. Since cardio activities make the heart muscle contract at a higher rate, the blood moves rapidly through the arteries and veins, which boosts circulation.
Running can help lose excess weight. Doing regular exercise helps in losing weight, in general. But exercises that require movement with more intensity stimulates the so-called “after burn,” which is good for losing weight. The “after burn” makes resting energy expenditure elevated. This helps the body burn fat even at rest.
Running builds stamina. Running regularly helps the body expand its capacity to perform exercises longer and better, conditions the heart and lungs to work extensively during high intensity workouts.
Running improves mood. Exercise of any kind makes one feel happier. Studies have shown that 30 minutes of walking/running on a treadmill can instantly lift the mood of someone suffering from depression.
Running gives chance to meet new friends. Get started by joining a run community that motivates running regularly. Not only will it improve cardiovascular health but also gain new friends.
