• Wife turns in drug ‘pusher’ husband

Palompon, Leyte: A 38-year-old wife who reported to the police that their house was being used as a drug den led authorities to the arrest of her husband and the recovery of suspected high grade shabu, with an estimated street value of P60,000.

Chief Insp. Margarito Salaño, Palompon chief of police, said Joel Dalmas and three others were caught by responding policemen in the act of sniffing shabu inside their house in Mazawalo village on Thursday.

Authorities said one of the suspects, identified as Marvin “Bambam” Cabahug, managed to escape along with the two others during the commotion. Cabahug is listed as among the top drug personalities of Palompon.

Deputy Chief of Police, Insp. Joel Clitar, said Dalmas’ wife – Melvin – tearfully related that their house had been turned into a drug den by her husband and Cabahug and pleaded to have them arrested.

Clitar, who led the responding team, said Cabahug was able to escape after he overpowered a policeman who held onto him as they scampered away upon seeing the approaching authorities.

Dalmas was collared by the team after his wife prevented him from running away.

The wife then requested the authorities to search their house where several drug paraphernalia were scattered. Police also found two big plastic sachets, commonly called bulto (bulk) containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu.  A further search also turned out two medium size and five more small plastic sachets containing the same.

Meanwhile, Salaño said Dalmas remains in detention after he was subjected to an inquest proceeding for violation of RA. 9165 or the Dangerous Drug Act before the Leyte Prosecutors Office in Tacloban City on Friday.
