THE Sandiganbayan’s Third Division has directed the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to bring lawyer Jessica Lucila “Gigi” Reyes to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Monday for a brain scan.

Reyes, co-accused of Sen. Juan Ponce-Enrile and businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles along with several others in a P172-million plunder charge and 15 counts of graft in connection with the pork barrel scam, is detained at the BJMP facility in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City (Metro Manila).

Last week, the court allowed her to undergo Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Angiogram (MRA) but that was yet to be implemented, pending availability of a neurosurgeon.

After noting and granting the pleadings filed by Reyes’ lawyer Anacleto Diaz on Friday, the court ordered her to be brought to the PGH on September 15.

“Jail Senior Insp. Jundelina C. Jagunap, City Warden, is directed to produce and bring the person of accused Jessica Lucila G. Reyes to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) at 3 o’ clock in the afternoon for the conduct of MRI and MRA examinations,” it said.

Both examinations are at the personal expense of Reyes.

PGH Director Jose Gonzales was also directed to give Reyes the results of the examinations “as soon as they become available.”

Earlier, Reyes asked the Sandiganbayan to let her undergo medical examinations, after she had an anxiety attack that caused her to hit her head against the wall of her detention cell.

The resolution was approved by Presiding Justice and Third Division Chairperson Amparo Cabotaje-Tang and fellow Associate Justices Samuel Martires and Alex Quiroz.

    1. Good. Okay yan para malaman na Gigi’s medical state. Only now that the court is practicing humanitarian act on Gigi. Kasi kapansin-pansin yung nakaposas sya pagdating sa korte. But the others like Tanda, Sexy, Pogi or his asst Cambe na mga nasa Crame country club pa.

    2. I think that Gigi is a special case indeed. I can only imagine the trauma that she is experiencing being at the butt end of mockery and persecution. I’ll go as far as saying she is a fall girl, and being pre-judged as guilty, and this may even be being done deliberately to take the heat off JPE (and the others). in truth I feel that Gigi is far removed from the pork scam operations which has Napoles and Tuason at the Center. It’s too bad the latter two enjoy the protection of government.

    3. What about the regular inmates in other jail cells that need to be checked out but are not deemed VIP’s – can they also avail of specialized medical services? Or is this privilege reserved for the rich and politically connected? I think we all know the answer to this question – in the Phils where lawyers pretend to uphold the law equally on all citizens, there are 2 standards of the law – one for the rich and another for the poor.
