THE Sandiganbayan’s Third Division has directed the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to bring lawyer Jessica Lucila “Gigi” Reyes to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Monday for a brain scan.
Reyes, co-accused of Sen. Juan Ponce-Enrile and businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles along with several others in a P172-million plunder charge and 15 counts of graft in connection with the pork barrel scam, is detained at the BJMP facility in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City (Metro Manila).
Last week, the court allowed her to undergo Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Angiogram (MRA) but that was yet to be implemented, pending availability of a neurosurgeon.
After noting and granting the pleadings filed by Reyes’ lawyer Anacleto Diaz on Friday, the court ordered her to be brought to the PGH on September 15.
“Jail Senior Insp. Jundelina C. Jagunap, City Warden, is directed to produce and bring the person of accused Jessica Lucila G. Reyes to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) at 3 o’ clock in the afternoon for the conduct of MRI and MRA examinations,” it said.
Both examinations are at the personal expense of Reyes.
PGH Director Jose Gonzales was also directed to give Reyes the results of the examinations “as soon as they become available.”
Earlier, Reyes asked the Sandiganbayan to let her undergo medical examinations, after she had an anxiety attack that caused her to hit her head against the wall of her detention cell.
The resolution was approved by Presiding Justice and Third Division Chairperson Amparo Cabotaje-Tang and fellow Associate Justices Samuel Martires and Alex Quiroz.
