A woman volunteer died when a steel scaffolding crashed and pinned her shortly after Pope Francis celebrated Mass at the Tacloban airport.
The 21-year-old victim from Samar died was one of the many volunteers who worked for the pontiff’s Mass, according to Fr. Amadeo Alvero, the Social Communications Director of the Palo Archdiocese.
Alvero said the scaffolding was blown by the strong winds brought by storm Amang.
“We are sorry that this had to happen,” the priest said.
Pope Francis held a Mass at the airport early Saturday morning amid strong rains.
Police said at least 200,000 people attended the pontiff’s Mass.
