ZAMBOANGA CITY: A woman, previously threatened with death by an alleged policeman over her unpaid debts, was fatally shot by a suspected hired killer in this city, police said.
Police said Mary Jane Peras, 34, was killed in Recodo village after being shot at least five times in the different parts of her body.
The gunman escaped after the shooting, according to C/Insp. Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman. He said the killer has been identified and is being hunted down by policemen.
Authorities are also investigating whether the policeman who threatened to kill Peras was involved in the murder.
Gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga where hired killers are actively operating.
